The Night Stalkers I've got a badge idea.I can't crop this pic like I want to,But crop this picture right above "THE" to include all 3 helicopters along with a banner heading.

Is there going to be some sort of swanky badge for this one? Wink [;)]

I'm currently on the hunt for the DML 1/35 AH-6 Little Bird...have a bajillion GB's going, but I'll probably start working on it whenever I manage to get a hold of one. Laugh [(-D]

Tambo, any ref pics you have of AH-6's that you could shoot my way...?

What ... ME in charge?! You can't be serious! Laugh [(-D]

Ok, so my first act is to summarize the points that have been said so far:

  • This GB is about the 160th SOAR "Night Stalkers" (so not the TV Show)
  • Any of this regiments helicopter past and present
  • Any scale
  • Any aftermarket
  • Start date Jan 7th 2008
  • End date Oct 3rd 200, in order to "celebrate" the battle of "The Mog"
  • No join deadline, just be sure to be done for Oct 3rd (that goes doubly for me!)

This been said, I'm open for suggestions and modifications to the rules.

Participants (in order of appearance):

  • hawkwrench
  • stikpusher --> "I do have some kits that qualify... now to pick one..."
  • Avus --> Italeri 1/72 MH47E with some aftermarket
  • dupes
  • Tambo --> "a few MH-47E's and what ever else I can get my hands on"
I'll update the list as soon as I get new info.

Seems like we are the only ones left!

If hawkwrench doesn't mind we could take control and give it a start, fixing some rules first, like start date end date if aftermarket are allowed etc.

I'd say start now and try to end for Oct 3rd, like hawkwrench originally proposed. Scale any, resin, photoetch, scratch and all aftermarket allowed.

As for me, I'll build Italeri's 1/72 MH-47E using Eduards photoetch and Cobra's decal sheet.

I'd like to stress that I'm not trying to steal this thread but I'd say we give it a go since October 3rd is closer than you might think!

As far as I know here you'll have no problems: as I said here it's up to the host to fix rules.
On the "other forum" are more strict rules so you'll have to enquiry there if there are issues with hosting the same build on two forums.

Avus. Can we have a group build on both sites or does it have to be on only one?I hope this isn't causing any problems between FSM and the other website.

I know it was me telling you to inform yourself about issues, but I can also tell you that here Groupbuilds are veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery flexible: it's up to the host to decide rules.

Personally I'd prefer to have it here.

I'll PM you as soon as I can.I created a 160th group build on www.arcair.com under helicopter modelling.Go to it for any further group build info, because I don't want to create any conflicts with the two websites over the same thread.I'm new to all of this group build ideas, but I thought it would be a good build,so I listed on both forums.

Hey Tambo, when did you go to the 160th?I had a close friend who was a MH-60L crew chief on the C2 blackhawk flying that day down in Somalia.Maybe you can post some pics of a C2 MH-60 for a build I'm doing for a memorial to him.

From 1996 till current.  Send me a PM and I'll see what I can do for you.

Also as far as the markings on the Aircraft...it all depends some are Black some are OD and some a few other colors.  Not all our aircraft are Black.

I think that what ever I build I'm going to donate to the regiment to put on display in our HQ.  If anyone wishes to do the same I can make it happen.  I really want to do a Diorama of Roberts Ridge and dedicate it to my fallen brothers.

So far the only kits that I know of that come with correct markings are both 1/35 scale - the DML AH-6 Little Bird and the Academy DAP Blackhawk. You rotorheads know of any aftermarket decal sets that would be applicable? Or any other kits in 1/48 that are the right variants?

Actually the DAP markings are not correct since they are yellow and should be OD, Dragon's are right: there are NO decals!

Cobra Company makes a few decal sets in OD in 1/72 1/48 and 1/35; in 1/35 they make a full sheet with stencils and all.

There are model kits in 1/48 but without the correct decals.

I'm in...This is my unit.  I'll be doing a few MH-47E's and what ever else I can get my hands on.  Does anyone have a list of all the kits that are available?

I'll be happy to assist on some of the details. I just can't get specific with some of the systems for security reasons.

That Hotel Olympic dio would look awesome when it's done considering the level of modelling I've seen on this helicopter subject.I'm working on a Blackhawk Down dio after 2 years of modelling AWOL.The crashing of a 1/35 scale Hawk was hard but some Forum help and crash pics helped out tremendously.New UH-60 crew figures with the correct flight helmets made for a perfect match for the 160th crews down in Mog at that time.If the dio turns out like it does the way I can see it in my mind,It will be big and definitely a contest entry.(2009 Ipms Nats for sure). No way I can get it done before the 2008 Nats.

Now that would be a BIG diorama!Shock [:O]

As far as this GB goes, I do have some kits that qualify... now to pick one...

Wow...I don't have any chopper kits in the stash currently...but I would most certainly be "IN" on this one! I've also had some insanely complex dio ideas - namely one involving a certain pair of snipers getting inserted via little bird on to crash site #2...if only I can make myself "wreck" a 1/35 scale blackhawk. Shock [:O]

Great idea!

Maybe it's a little too specific a Group build

BUT

Im soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo in!
Night Stalkers are my favorite subject!

I have a project in mind that would fit greatly in this GB:
A hovering Black Hawk with rappelling rangers (close to "Hotel Olympic")!

It's a little ambitious so I don't know if I'll manage in a year, but as a "plan B" I have a 1/72 MH-47E, two 1/35 Little Bird and a 1/35 "Delta - Hook" waiting to be converted to an "Echo".
As you see I have many options.

Sorry about the jargon,I must have caught the bug from Jon.OGS stands for Operation Gothic Serpent. That was the name for Task Force Ranger while down in Mogadishu.
