Halftracks GB '08 of US, German, Isreal ext. Mar.1'08 - Dec.31'08
Posted by White_R34 on Friday, February 29, 2008 9:58 PM

How about a new GB of all types of Military Halftracks from all over the world. As for me I love the ones from WWII and some from Isreal. But any halftrack will work. First the rules;

1. Have fun  Have fun Have funSign - Welcome <img src=" border="0" width="55" height="36" />

2. Model must be any scale you want!

3. If the halftrack is of a suject the is not known you must post images of the concept and your build.

4. You can build it box stock or with full PE detail if you want.

5a. The Halftracks don't have to have all the right markings if you can't find them (but I know some one will point you the right way if any one gets lost. If your doing any from WWII and from the the eastern front and are German all must have the white cross on the sides if you are doing them in gray color. If I am rong some one will tell me and I will change this info.

5b. New thing to add Not all Gray greman Halftracks had the white cross.

6. Model kits up to you, Scratch building is trulySign - Welcome <img src=" border="0" width="55" height="36" />

7. If any one has a build halftrack and want's to show it here that would be ok(if you also have old images of your work of them post them to if you have it.), but you should start a thread of it out side this BG as well so you can answer any question asked of your work. But please try to show your work if your going to build in this Group Build. Any model that has been started an is not over (85%) done you can bring it in.

If any one want to try this let me know and if one is alredy on going I would like to ad this as a 2nd  or 3rd part to that one. When it comes to the time frame I will discussion with any builders that like this idea.

Discussion Group Needed on History of types of halftracks and markings' I need people like Doog Have any of you see this man's work. An any one that know's halftrack models and there History.

Here's a some images of my German SdKfz 215/17 (I hope this get your blood pumping) First I did a lot of scratch building to it as the new kits where not out there yet and I did't want to use resin.

I want you to join and build with us.

Guy,s and Girl's please put up a list of what you plan to work on with box art if you can.

here is a shot of my almost finished 1/48, my primed 1/35 and finally my new just assembled for this build 1/48 not sure yet how I will display it, I am thinking of both the 1/48s near Rommel's halftrack with Rommel listening to reports

Well,

I answered over in the armor forum but I'll also chime in here, in the 'official thread'.

I'd like to try a couple, maybe even three, that I've been planning for awhile!

My scenario is two 251s in DAK that are hypothetical 'what if field shop' conversions. One, I've started but is below the 85% completion rule so I'd like to include it. It's based on the Tamiya 1/35th "Hanomag" with some TLC and a Pak40 onboard. Then I'm leaning towards another as an ammo carrier but it just might wind up with another 'gun' stuffed into it? I also have a 250/9 but I'm in a quandry whether to convert it along the lines of a 253 ammo carrier with ammo trailer, or a more 'traditional' observation variant?

But somehow I'd like them to represent a hypothetical 'special task force' that roamed the desert and took on tanks in hit and run fashion! I'd also like to present them within a diorama but don't want to get ahead of my actual skills!Wink [;)]

SO- is there room in this GB for 'hypothetical what if' scenarios- or are we sticking to prototype, documented, fidelity?

Thanks,

Don

the "big" one and one small one were started a month or so ago. the unpainted one I just started, after the start of this GB so technically the one 1/48 is the only one that "counts" for this build.

The 2 little ones will go in a diorama with the 1/48 GRIEF halftrack that I have ordered for the GB {the GRIEF was my plan in the beginning, but when I remembered I still had one unbuilt I dragged it out.

I assemble fast it's the painting and weathering that slows me down Whistling [:-^]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

for me, I plan on doing a diorama with the Grief and Rommel standing and my two mini tracks ready to race off at his command

IF I could do canopies I would add a Storch but.....way too much masking for my ability Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I have several halftracks in my arsenal. Right now I am leaning towards my Zvesda SdKfz 251/1 Ausf B/ I have AFV club workable track and AFV wheels. Those are the major problems that I am aware of with the Zvesda kit.

Fisrt about the 1/48 Greif I cant wate to see how your going to do it as I have that same version in 1/35 but I want to do it as the Ader version. Hay I looked up info on E.Rommel's halftrack and found that he had three "GREIF"-(Griffin or Condor or Attack), "ADLER"-(Aigle or Eagle),"IGEL"-(Hedgehog) as it said the the last one was a Gray color and the other two where of the sand camo color. I don't know if this is still right I looked it up over 4 years ago. Any way I hope to build all three starting with ADLER. I know some of you may want to know why? You see Greif done a lot I just though doing this version woulf be a good switch. I'm going to look it again to see what will come up now.

found something take a looky: It looks like a drawing thou, It's a full open top.

IGEL: was a Sd.Kfz 253 with closed top and hatches

GREIF: Full open top.

See it some thing a lettle defferent.

mine will be OOB in the dk yellow  I have never built this track, {only one I have done is the Tamiya "hanomag" Sd.Kfz. 251 in 1/35. Mine will probably be in an "OPEN" area with all the tracks together with several figures. I have pictures of him also using a british Quad as his command truck. I guess that is sort of rubbing their noses in it. Of course the Desert Rats of Tobruk showed them how to use other peoples stuffSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

EDIT: ooh, I think I just had  epiphany...or a brain fart, not sure which BUT I think I may make a small oasis with a few date palms and some h2o

ok, here are some follow up pics of my WIP

I boogered the white "GRIEF" decal and a member of another forum was kind enough to send me his, since he was building 2 and the second was not Rommel's command track.

It is still shinny, missing tools, lights, fender markers and weathering also the machine gun shield is scratch because it is somewhere over the rainbow Whistling [:-^]

it will be in an oasis setting, I am preparing for the water.....

Cruzr, your /21 looks almost exactly like my /17 does at the moment... pitifully unbuilt!

Seriously though, I'm at the same stage of build as you and the parts are pretty similar, but I notice that the gearshift has a slightly different shape to the 'boot'.  What's the PE strip above the suspension?

i don't know if it makes a difference but my /21 is an ausf D, don't know if that is why the gearshift is a little different. as for that PE above the suspension, beats me. if anything i think it's just a rasied detail, but if i'm wrong someone please correct me. My knowledge of the 251 is very minimal at best

The /17 is a D as well...but it's a moot point now as I've added some PE detail to the driver's area and one of those details is a shift gate box around the shift boot, so it is unseeable now.

And yeah, my knowledge of the 251 family is limited to .. they're German halftracks from WWII that got used in a wide variety of roles.Big Smile [:D]

OK you can put me down  for this one, I can either do an AFV Club SdKfz11 or a Tamiya SdKfz7, to be determined at a later date.
