Sd.Kfz 9. Notice the shape of the guard between the roadwheel and track. Also, one section for crew seats behind the driver with a large cargo bed, more suited to a recovery vehicle.

Sd.Lfz 8. The guard is a different shape and an extra row of crew seats, more sutable for a gun crew.

The 9 is the larger of the 2, 18 ton to the 8's 12 ton. Though the track section has the same number of wheel stations which makes it look the same size, the 9 is about 1m longer than the 8. The 9 might have slightly larger wheels which would make up the extra 3 feet.

And this is the one from the movie.

A little progress Armornut.  Nothing too exciting, just trudging through PE.

Making the radiator is a slow process.

But, it really adds some zest to the front end.

Still trudging through PE.  Subassemblies are done and she's just about ready for paint.

Great progress Chad!

You've got to get her done so you can start on that gigantic roadway gun soon!

Well, I can't put it off any longer. I must start on the inevitable. Definitely not looking forward to painting figures but we will see how it goes. I'll use Vallejo acrylics.  That should make the process a little easier.

I'm sure you will do fine Chad. I switched to Vallejo for figures a few years back, so much better than Tamiya.

Thank you Bish.  Tamiya is making it easier by producing higher quality figures than in years past.  The molding on these figures is outstanding.

Their figures have deffinetly got better. But while i do like resin figures, there are some really nice set from european companies like Mini Art, Masterbox and so on.

Figures are done for now. A few stray arms and heads will be painted separately, but I feel like it's all coming together now.

Those look great Chad! Though looking at the photo I get the impression they were speeding along and the dastery Russians set up a razor wire at about neck level and whack, whack, WHICKY-WHACK they all lost their heads!!!

All joking aside those do look much better than the older Tamiya figures. I think Alpine resin figures may be the best out there now but as Bish said the MasterBox and Mini-Art stuff is close behind.

Thanks guys!  Question, do resin figures have annoying seam lines like the plastic ones do?

Well, some do and some don't. They generally come with mold blocks on their feet instead of being a sprue like injection molded plastic figures. The better quality ones come with no or almost no seam lines. Some of the lower quality ones though can be a pain to clean up.

I feel just the same as you feel on painting figures. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

So cool! A truck type vehicle always looks better with some junk in the bed!
