It was usually the case that up to 3 Famo's were needed to tow a Tiger. But as in this picture, it was possable for 2 to do the job.

But clearly this one needed more, probably due to the missing track and muddy conditions. Now that would make a big diorama.

Tiger crews were forbibben to tow another Tiger because of the damage caused to the towing vehicle, but of course that was often ignored. Even by the SS.

Oh man, I can only imagine the damage on the transmission when a Tiger was towing another Tiger! 

Oh that's cool! Looking forward to seeing her come together! 

Is that the same type of halftrack that Marvin and Bronson hijack at the end of 'The Dirty Dozen'? All I remember is it was a really big BIG friggin' halftrack! 

    I believe it was Gamera, not sure what museum it came from and not sure how they were convinced to let it push that armored car off the bridge. Cool indeed.

   BTW EXELLENT kit, builds very beautifully and while appearing complicated it is a real joy.

Now thats a movie worth seeing again!

One of the best armor kits ever made.  I built the one with the trailer. I had the Aber PE sets but they were absurdly difficult.  Great figures too.  Have fun with it.

With a fairly high parts count, I've decided to attack this project in phases. Each phase will be its own model so to speak.  This phase will be engine/transmission/exhaust. 

Im not a fan of PE but the engine fan was lacking.  I think the replacement looks much better.

The kit supplied grill needed to go as well.

The exhaust components will get a wee bit of texture with baking soda.

Ready for paint.

Be willing to bet that was a model shot, given that "the chateau" was a studio mock-up.  Allegedly, they were meant to blow up the entire chateau, but they balked when the pyro guys said they needed a couple of tons of explosives to get the effect.

  Really hadn't thought that the car could have been, more likley was a large scale R/C, makes sense. Even to this day I'm still just along for the ride when I watch it.

    Totally AWESOME work so far on such an already beautiful kit. Tamiya has made this kit exactly as mentioned, many small models built into one. One of their best IMO, even better with the changes you have made.

Ok, been looking around for "making of Dirty Dozen" info, and find all sorts of cool info--just nothing on the vehicles used.

It's probaly worth noting that the prop houses/model shops will routinely build 1/4 and larger scale models for "effects" shots.

The shot-up boat scene used a 1:2.5 replica, becase "water does not scale" on film.

  Great info CaptMac, with all the tech available today, we tend to forget the skill that was to bring action scenes safely to us. Sometimes I miss the good 'ol days.

 Bish how can one tell the difference between the Famo and a larger? 12ton seen in the movie?
