Dragon's 1/35 Firefly Vc on the shelves!
Posted by J-Hulk on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 9:29 AM
The LHS got in about 40 Fireflies this week! (Osaka, Japan)
A quick poke through the box revealed a very tasty kit indeed.
I've always wanted to build a Firefly, and I think now's the time!
It's going for 3,800 Yen ($34 USD).

You beat me to it, Brian!! I was just going to post a thread that they are in at greatmodels. Supposed to be a new tool. Too many kits, too little time (and money)!!

I think those are great kits. I've got two, one is destined to be in Polish service and the other in British. As for the tracks, well, I was intimidated at first, but they turned out really good. Just takes some time and a few choice words every now and again.

Unless those tracks have changed, I might have to pass. Hopefully, they're easier to build than the old ones.

Dunno, Dwight. Aren't releases in the Phillipines about the same as here in Japan?
I've noticed that Dragon releases seem to be fairly synchronous worldwide.

I am not sure. But we already have the T3485, M1 in Baghdad and the Panzer IVG on the shelf here. I just want to make a Firefly. I already missed the Dragon Easy eight for this "maybe later" attitude.

My shop is supposed to have the Firefly in Monday so I'll be picking one up then. They should have been in today but the holiday knocked the delivery back.

Those figures are nice Jon, thanks for sharing. Maybe I could use my tracks from my Tamiya kit instead of those nasty indy tracks. Big Smile [:D]

Actually, I was teasing Jon, I didn't think they were compatitable. I have read so many horror stories about those muti tracks, that they even scare me off. If there weren't so many parts to each track, I think I would do it. It's hard enough to finish a kit as it is.

The DML tracks take quite a bit of work and a whole pile of patience, but the end results can be very pleasing. Here's a pic of them mounted on my TRV.

Yeah, it's moving to the top of my Christmas model list, right in front of the Academy Jackson! Dang all these Sherman varients!!! And yet still no calopie! You'd think one of the manufactures would do one.

Just curious if anybody knows, are the Academy Jackson tracks easier or harder to assemble than Dragon's Firefly? More or less pieces?

You already missed the Calliope release Bill. Monogram did one many, many years ago and Italeri released one about 7 or 8 years ago. Verlinden did a resin conversion kit that was the best of the bunch IMO. As always, they're all OOP right now but I'd watch for Italeri to re-release it in the future, they usually bring their stuff back for another round.

Sherm: What can you say about the quality of the rubber tracks. Would it be necessary to use A/M indy ones for this one?

I haven't seen the kit on the shelf yet Dwight .... but if it's the same quality as in their M12 and M10 kits, I'm using them and not going to go with AM.

Thanks Robert. I assume the M10 are the same? This might be one time I bite the bullet and do vinyl. I do have my limits. I'm beginning to feel something in my gut, something Eric(Erock) must have felt.......that pull to the OD side of the dark side. First a Hellcat in the fold, now a Jackson......M10.....?[:0]
