I don't know about them breaking down, but I can tell you this much, it is a battle-tested tank and much faster than the challenger.

If an M1 Abrams is THE EMPEROR the that must be why they keep breaking down in IRAQ. Like all Emperors they just can't stand up to the Challenge(rs or Leopard IIs)!

Ok ... seeing as there seems to be lots of interest we get David to post a sticky to start this thing off.

Here's what it will be .... Sherman Family Group Build
Any scale .... anything goes .... Am, P.E. Dio, O.O.B. whatever you would like.
Start date - January 15

Watch for the Sticky for further details

Edog - you might as well stay in with us with your M-10's, we'll see how many different variants of the Sherman family we can get

Miller - a group build is just what it sounds like ... a bunch of modellers get together and build the same thing. Like the 1/16 Tiger Group build, the Panther Group Build, or in this case the Sherman Family Build. The nice thing is, everyone's on the same page so lot's of help is available throughout the build.

Dwight - nothing to do with the Battle of the Bulge .... unless you want to build a Sherman Family Member at the Bulge

Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Just a question:

Is the Shermie Build connected with the Battle of the Bulge thing?

Sherm et al,

A Sherman family vehicle:
I'm in also! From the box, scratch building okay, no AM except decals, no PE... got it (except for what's in the kit I'll assume). Start around Jan 1 or 15. Just a warning, my Guard unit is on alert for possible mobilization. I may not be able to build this while on duty... we'll see!

Regards,

Ron.

Yes! I did pick up a copy of it. Thanks for the lead on it. The AJ books are pretty terrific. But pricey! They are over $25 at greatmodels.com. They are Polish/English text (some of the older ones are Polish only). I have one of the Tiger books and there is a lot of info in it. The trick is getting one that covers the model(s) in which you're interested. Good luck.

Sorry to hear you've been ill, too. I'm slowly getting over mine, but still kind of just dragin' around.

Sherm, I vote any varient w/am and pe. For me, it's just not worth building a model if I can't "jazz" it up a bit.

pantsless,

sorry, i meant an M-10 build, if loggerbruce, sgtreef are up for it. (all in the same post) As far as the challenge, it does not sound like too many are interested.

ok, folks, i'm a little confused by now so forgive me if i'm wrong here...

i think the subject of this group build is this:

Sherman tank or any variant thereof
open to any scale
out of the box build of any kit from any manufacturer
no photoetched parts or commercial aftermarket additions of any kind (except decals)... edit: unless u really want 'em... LOL !
scratchbuilt details allowed
start date January 1 or 15, 2004

it sounds like a group build i won't have 2 buy anything 4...Big Smile [:D]
can i play ?
( i promise i won't try & fool u with my ersatz M10...it didn't really work 2 well when the germans tried it in real life ! Wink [;)])

edog, can you tell me what youre referring to when you said "join us" and "other two"? Join you in which build? The armor vs aircraft challenge? And i have no idea who youre referring to when you said "other two". I'd scroll back, but I'm just lazy i suppose.

loggerbruce, sgtreef

if you guys want we could make a specific M10 build. I think there were 3 or 4 of us that had mentioned the M10. I have the AVF Club M-10 kit sitting on my shelf and will be able to start whenever you guys are ready.

I'm open to an "open" catagory like the current panther build. I just happened to get the Academy M-10 kit because of the interior and will build it as I want ( probably just OOB with some scatch and spares parts box) and have never built a US ww2 tank before.

Allied armor.......I consider this a temporary exile.
I'm all for the Sherman and variants there of. I have a M4A4 I'm just waiting to get into. In fact its already planned for a diorama so I'll be building it for that in mind. I can always add it later.

As for AM and or PE. I could go either way on this. I probobly won't do a whole lot, of AM or PE but there is the occasional, "the OOB piece just doesn't look right" so I say open it up.

Making it a diorama or not....my vote is for how ever you want to present the finished project. Dioramas will add to the build time so everyone should take that into account. But I'm easy so what ever the concensus is I'll run with it.

So I guess heres my 2 cents.
If we do a Sherman or Sherman variant as Robert suggested I'm in.
Open it up to AM and PE
Diorama is ok (I'll be adding mine to a diorama later so it won't matter. Its not as though it will be an integral part of the base, i.e. sunk up to the fenders in mud) so it can go stand alone or diorama.
January start time

Tally ho!

OK, still no sign of a Firefly or M36 in the shops but an Italeri M36 is still around so consider me "in" in the Shermie Build.

I already have the Dragon M1A2 so I am "in" the M1 Build.

I will be free from work starting monday so I can already finish my Challenger 2 and start on my Panther and Concorde. All would be OOB so I could probably finish them before the year ends.

Just help me pray for the Dragon "Firefly" or Academy "Jackson".

So has an estimated date been set yet? I'd love to join in the fun once the Panther is done and I get whatever kit it'll be. I could also work on both at the same time if need be.

Robert- Personally I would vote for pe and aftermarket. I'm just getting into alot of that. Thats whats been great about the panther build is that I'm doing alot of that for the first time and theres alot of help with oters doing the same thing. Might give some others who normally don't do alot of extra detailing the initative to try it.

Still would like some feedback from all of you as to the level we want to allow in this build.
PE or no PE
AM or not - I know some who are thinking of doing a DML Sherman who will definitely want to use AM tracks.

Let me know what you all think please.

Heyas all,

I am game to do a allied armour as well, I would be happy with either one, M1 or a Sherm, prefferably a Sherm.

Thanks
