Ernest, I have to admit when the voting was all said and done on the 38(t) as the candidate for #100 I was a little surprised but glad in the end that it got the top slot. I thoroughly enjoyed this build and got to try something new as well via the cutaways. Glad you liked it! As for Eric's suggestion about what I will have planned for #200, I think I'll just outsource that to Rob (scratchmod)! #200 is a loooooong way in the future considering it took 7 years to get to the first century benchmark. Sweet build there Bill!  Thanks for sharing the progress the entire way.  I really like how the weathering ended up.

Rob, Eric, Boyd, and Marc, I appreciate all of your comments and encouragment along the way!

Boyd, for now this one will go in the regular large case as I consider the exact way I want to display it. It may end up on a small base and/or in its own little display case but I don't want to rush that aspect considering the "special" nature "Franklin" has. Big Smile [:D]

Bill

I can only echo everyone's praise.  Wonderful build.  If I recall, you have a special case (or are getting one) for this one?  Can't wait to see it in its permanent home...

Great to have you back at the bench. Nice work so far on the weathering....as always....Franklin never looked better.

Almost time to go airborne.....101Shock [:O]

Thanks Mike! I'm very happy with how Franklin turned out and have begun clearing the bench for the promised runner-up in the form of the Tiger (P) as the Airborne #101 (without of course any model aerial tests planned for in the process).

Bill, this HAS to be published in FSM one day... no kidding!

Feel free to call me crazy... for your next build #101 you should build a tank that has Mickey Mouse as their division or regiment sign/symbol.  I remember reading somewhere that the Germans actually has done it... maybe in Luftwaffe only?  That way you will always cheerish your trip to WDW with your wife.  Big Smile [:D]

Andy, appreciate the kind words and vote of confidence about publication of this build. As for the Mickey Mouse usage, I don't know of any cases where Panzer units adopted it as regiment symbol but I know that Disney characters did show up on occasion on various Luftwaffe aircraft. I think that was more of a personalization ala nose art than actual squadron official markings though IIRC. #101 is already locked into place in terms of subject matter and since it's a very specific vehicle, I don't have any latitude with it in that regard...but throughout WDW there were "hidden" Mickeys in the landscape, shrubbery, etc. so who knows, one could sneak its way in perhaps? My wife loves the idea though so I may have to try. Big Smile [:D]

This is my favorite build of yours, without question. The opening-up of the hatches, and the red cutaway color juxtasposed against the gray, and then the white of the interior peeking through, make for a striking presentation. All around, just a beautiful build and execution!

You deserve trophy girls for this one, Bill!

BRAVO, BRAVO!! Bow [bow] Bow [bow]

P.S.--GREAT photos! Wink [;)]

Thanks Karl, high praise indeed! The trophy girls are a nice touch although the Borat man-kini image is always a disturbing one to go with it! Laugh [(-D] I have to say this project definitely ranks up there as one of my favorites as well and I'm glad you like how it turned out. The cut-out approach was a march off into uncharted territory and stretched my skill-legs in the process. Most of the builds I enjoy the most do that in some way and this one, while it took longer than usual, was very rewarding in that regard. Thumbs Up [tup]

The last thing to do was to reset the white balance on the camera and take the walk-around shots:

Thanks Terry!

Steve, yep that one should be in two-tone for sure. Look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Continuing on with the weathering process, I applied a pin wash of Raw Sienna to add some more dust accumulation effects particularly around all of the rivets. Adjustments were made where too much wash accumulated with a small pointed brush and clean thinner.

I applied a sealing coat of Testors Lusterless Flat in the spray can to the whole model and let that sit overnight. The next step involved the application of Mig Europe Dust pigments to the tracks and running gear to match the weathering on the upper hull. I added a drop of liquid dish soap to ordinary tap water to break the surface tension and combined the powder pigment with the water in an old prescription bottle lid. The mix was applied wet with a round sable brush and allowed to air dry.

Excess pigment was removed using stiff bristled brushes as the first step. Next I made additional adjustments using a combination of wet and dry q-tips to fine-tune the look to where I wanted it.

With that out of the way, it was time to attend to some of the loose ends such as the turret crew seats. These were assembled and installed into the turret since the turret had to be in place before I could add the radio antenna.

Speaking of which, the antenna was installed using a small amount of CA gel into the pot on the hull front. I also added the delicate formed brass gun-sights for the 2 MGs courtesy of the LionMarc set. The antenna and sights were then carefully painted with Non-buffing Metalizer Gunmetal.

Bill it's the A1 late, kit #008. The box art shows it in the two-tone scheme. I'm hoping it's correct because that's the way I'd like to go with it.
