Isn't this nice
Posted by erush on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 7:19 AM
Now that a few people had to go and post with some colorful language we get to endure the auto curse word checker. Isn't nice that we all get to feel like 4th graders now. You can't talk about Photo Etch Br****** with out interpreting the word br****** now. Same with your school cl****** you talk about. And what about a cannon shell (well that gets through). That's why so many people were trying to get the few to calm down on their language and since they wouldn't do it on their own we get to regress here.

David, I'm not aiming this at you. I know you had to do it. It's aimed at the few people who can't contol their own typing. Guess we all get controlled now huh? Angry [:(!] Just a thank you to those folks.

Now, thanks to the classy members of this assembled group, we need the assistance of our intellect to classify what our fellow modelers are trying to say.

Hopefully this too shall pass. Laugh [(-D]

(Edit -- someone took the autocensor off and ruined my fine joke! Tongue [:P])

perhaps it was an object lesson?
a not so thinly veiled warning of how things might be?

on the topic of our fellow members who allowed their anger to get the better of them,
i say it is water under the bridge.
they cannot "unring the bell", so let us move forward and hope for better.

I brought this up in the admin forums, but the post was deleted. I noticed it when reading a posting in the helicopter thread when words like "assault helicopter" and "assigning Native American names to US Army helicopters" resulted in in asterisk edit.

While I do think that the flagrant profanity posted by pantless here a few days ago (should be "classless") was uncalled for, making any word that contains those 3 letters in a row as censored is a little overboard.

Hey-assume and assign got through-wonder about bass fishin' or long pass???

BTW-have noticed some "colorful" and angst-ridden dialogues lately! Never put anything in print you wouldn't want Momto see.

Maj Rob, I saw your post too. It's just one of those things when you turn on the auto filter it's got the default settings that filter it all out. You can see now that they either have it turned off or Dave and crew have been modifying it. It's a shame they even felt the need to turn it on but givin enough time there's always going to be someone who has to spoil the party. I kind of like the idea of a temporary ban of offenders, say for 3 or 4 days then see if they can behave themselves. Of course that's still more work for Dave and them to "monitor" people so....

Oh well, we'll get by, it's still a great site with great people!

they should have a little button on each post that reads "report" and if you press that little button, it sends that post to the forum gurus for review.

I like the idea about the button for reporting. It's just a shame that we had to come to this. But on to bigger and better things!

That reminds me of when my family was driving to Holland for a vacation in 1972. I saw a policeman in black leather cap and jacket stepping out of a Porsche 911 to hand out a ticket. I just thought that was the coolest "cop" that I had ever seen....

Oh yeah! This trend hit my work site (the public schools here in cool ol' Portage Wisconsin) last year. It's called a filter and won't let you go onto any sites that the government thinks are no-no's. This includes one with all the information about MY M7 SNOW TRACTOR!! OUCH! History is a BAD thing. You can LEARN from it. Shame on you all for wanting to learn.

Oh yeah. Thanks 6th holers.

Did any of this make sense to any of you? If not, oh well. It's just the old guy rambling again.

SoapBox [soapbox]

Ok ... guess I'll throw my 2 cents into the fray.

First of all, I'm one of the ones who doesn't like to see off-coloured language used in the forums. Every message that is posted here at the forums that I open is invited into my home. When you are invited into my home, and use language that is unfit to be heard, you will be asked to leave.

But I'm also a forgiving sort of fellow .... an appology carries a lot of weight with me. And a promise not to do it again will gain you access into my home once more.

But I also don't like filters. Filters have been proven time and time again to fail. I also understand that the staff of FSM have far better things to do with their time then to spend hours of each day patrolling the site. I think there are enough responsible members, as proven by the responses to the language used the other day, to handle the policing of the site.

Kick the offending members out ? .... not this time ... but the next time.

There will always be others to come along and do the same offensive posts.

Have a filter running on the site that cuts out more info then crap? Like I said earlier ... they don't work.

Have the staff of FSM on constant guard? .... a total waste of resources.

Assign a number of responsible members to moderate these forums? This is something that I have advocated since the beginning .... and it may well be the time. Give them the ability to clip, delete, and maybe even warn when something like this occurs.

This is our Forum ... graciously made available to us by the good people at FSM.

Let's keep it clean in here ... a place where we are happy to show our children and grandchildren our works.

SoapBox [soapbox] OFF
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert
