Tamiya Cromwell WIP **FINISHED**

I like the overhead shots, for they really how off the tonal variations. Sweet build.

Agree with guys.  Great work on the figure to go with your great build!   I am a big fan of figures because it makes the whole build 'complete'.

I am calling this one finished . It took a while, had some destractions and tried some new techniques, but I am happy with the finished model. Painting the figure was my greatest challange (first one in 20 years). 

Now on to an old Academy Wirbelwind.

Andy-Don't be afraid of the beast called Dot Filtering. It can look like a mess, but if you use oils over Future, you have hours to work with it. When I first did it on the cromwell, it lookes way to white, so I added more red and burnt umber and blended it some more. I really enjoy do this now.

Bill- I used just plan Puff"s tissues for the tarps and a gauze bandage for the netting, with a Elmers glue and water mixure to set it.

Subhuman (I like this name)- The figures that come with the Verlinden set are very nicely detailed, the storage boxes are nice too, except the rear one had the corners knocked off.  I used the kit barrel, it glued up fine and the seam does not show. Remember to add the wiring for the turret spot light and you can do the front fender lights, which I didn't.

I just about finished it last night, just some more pastels and a dullcoat. Should have more photos later this week.

You just had to do this didn't you?

Coming along nicely wildman and the save on the massacred stowage just adds to the overall vehicle. What did you use for the tarps?

Good choice!

This was one of my very first builds and it was a superb kit!

OOB it built up very quickly due to low parts and it all being pretty straightforward but you should have some fun with it with your extras.

I'd love to have another go at this kit with the PE and an AM barrel / tracks now that I've learnt a bit.

I seem to recall two things to watch out for - the joint seam where the barrel halves join and the plastic 'rim' which fits over the mesh at the rear - mine wasn't wide enough and I had to slice it in half to make it fit then fill the gaps - it was only too small by about 1mm. Perhaps it was just me at the time!

I agree with Hinsky. I also turned out a good looking Cromwell OOB. Just like any Tamiya, fit was good. I did not get anything else for it . I came out very well if I have to say so myself. Good luck and keep us posted.

She looks beautiful so far, the paint work is first class, very effective.

Nice work so far! I have this same kit, and I am in the process of doing the A.M. scrounging for it right now, dimpled wheels from Accurate Armour, tracks from Hobby Boss, P.E. from voyager, and barrel and ammo from Aber all on the way.

I like some of the goodies that you got with the Verlinden kit. Especially the turret boxes. Just need to find some suitable figures  and I will soon be on my way with my own Cromwell build.

Outstanding!  Especially the net and tarp.  I have seen your previous builds and I have to say that this is the best.  I haven't tried thedot filtering method yet... way too chicken!

Loving it so far. 

Well it has been a while. My daughter lost our camera and we finally got a replacement.

I have been working on the tools, stowage and figure. I watched some videos on making stowage and decided to try it. I made a couple bedrolls, tarp and a net. Our new puppy got on my bench and eat a couple fuel cans and oil can, so I needed something to fill in for them.

I just did a dot filtering with my new oil paint set for Hobby Lobby, 24 colors for 11 bucks.

Up next will be drybrushing and weathering with pastels.

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

We are having the first ever blizzard in Central Missouri, so it is a good day to stay home from work and do some airbrushing. 40mph winds and 15 inches of snow so far.

Painting was done with all Tamiya paints, Olive Drab with some Buff and a little White mixed in. I really tried to lay on light coats as not to cover the pre-shading. I then added more white and faded the center of the panels. This is my first try at this and I very happy with the look this gives.

It looks like more snow tonight and high winds tomorrow, so another day off. I hope to get a caot of Future on and the decals. But I will probably be too wipped from shoveling the driveway.

Bet you had a nice holiday break because it shows that you are doing very well to your Cromwell.  I have been doing pre-shading for my last three builds and it can be very tricky.  First attempts the base coat just covered most of my pre-shading work!   It works better if you can thin the paint as much as you can.  I used 50/50 and make few quick spraying runs until I am satisfied.  It is very easy to go overboard!
