Hey Buddy  :  )

It is nice to come home after a crappy day at work and turn on the Disaster Master show!

Animated, Friendly, and down right informative !

Terrific, accurate weld representation, Steve, and drilling all those holes for the skirts must be a biatch 1/35...

they were killer for me in 1/16 a couple years ago, and your weld seams around the lifting eyelets look superb also .................  Steve , there is just something about Sherman ........dang.....

Thanks for perking me up

tread

Thank 'ya good buddy.

Well, I'm trying to make it interestin' .... the holes & welds aren't really that hard, just tedious.

Dropped in for a couple of pics and a brief update, not a lot tonight.

                                Been doing some other postings.

Now, back to the main event......http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv126/Marston72/smiley%20sports/image068-12.gif

Cut out a small section of the hull on both sides and installed the stops for the engine compartment doors, I did it this way to make a stronger joint, no little fiddly parts to break off. Pictured is the initial left side detail..............    yeah, the same on the other side.

I also added the rear (metal wire) hull lifting lugs. The side armor appliqué welds show but they’re kinda’ blurred.

Messin' around with my new kit while working on this and I got ahead of myself here. I cut the parts for the area under the hull (right over the exhausts).......

then forgot to write the measurements down before gluing them together.

                            http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v65/KathyJB16/Smilies/smiley-slapping_zpsc05f0fbb.gif

But here's a picture of the "Before"

You’ll be able to see the placement/installment and detail better in the next segment………

Busy tonight, it's Friday and my boy is home from college.

Enjoy the family time while you can, the modelling can wait.  I envy you being able to be with your son.  Mine's in Kyrgyzstan and I only get to see him once or twice a year.  All the best.

Now as for the Thread, "priceless" just brilliant to be able to see serious modelmaking mixed up with good spirited homour.

Terry,
We're all a sittin' around the computer here on a Sunday evening a reading your reply  .............. My Photo

The tread humor is an effort at goodwill and some lightness into everyone's day. Your reply in combination with all the others here is an encouragement for me and my smiley friends to carry on.

As I'm sure you know; "patience is a requirement for anything worth having or doing"
.....and so it goes (needless to say) with model building too.
Thanks for your vote of confidence in regards to this thread.

Well, in this economy, even smileys need a job.........

........... and a place to stay. So on here, they get both!

And then there's always a few in the herd that are always complainin'

but they know they're lucky to have a job here doin' something interesting.

 That's good to know vetteman......

Just be aware that this particular model of the sherman was another variant of the M4A3. As for the VVSS series, this was probably the ultimate Sherman of WWII and according to various sources only 254 of this version were built.
..

Anyway, there are still a lot of techniques shown here that can be used on any/many Shermans.

  Made some progress..............

As mentioned before, here’s some pictures of the upper muffler area I constructed.

and here is a shot of the real thang.
http://huntingny.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/DuckHuntingSmiley.gif

More detail of the area around the exhaust ventilator

and 2 photos of my efforts to produce the same effects using styrene cardstock.

 ToughJob.gif image by Ronnies_Pets

below, there’s the rear end showing the added texture and features.

                 hmmmmm.....  lookin' kind'a ruff.......

1.    Fuel vent tube added (hypo needle)
2.    Detail for the manual fire extinguisher
3.    Spare track racks filed out so the separate links can be weathered & added later

Closer examination at the very top of the picture will also show the scratched tool attachment points.

The_Eyebrow_by_brokenboulevard_by_The_Emoticon_Club.gif image by Selina_catz

I'm forgettin' to take pictures again.....

Here's an earlier close-up of the texture detail with the vent tube and rear mounting hardware made from .060 (scales out to 2.1”) evergreen angle with the small welds made using sprue and the hole placement evenly added using a draftsmans divider. Yeah, it'll be muddied up.

Got the urge to mess with some paint.

Here’s three pictures (after some clean-up, texturing and painting) of the engine exhaust that fits behind the ventilator.

and with a bit of white……

yeah I’m experimenting here a bit. ......

I'm so slow.... I gotta hurry, this thing is growing a hair........... http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/angry/pulling-hair.gif

Like I mentioned earlier,  a lot of this won’t be seen but at least you’ll know it’s there.

more-posts.gif image by angnian

Next time -  some more detailing on the rear.

So for now,

time to get my butt outta here.............

Don't worry William, there are things other than mud which are much more "aesthetically" pleasing and

make it even more interesting than the detail "lost" so to speak.

worry.gif image by KellyKelly92_2008

The areas shown above, "the exhaust area" will actually be hidden due to the fact of where it is located on the vehicle.

Be assured the mudding will not take away from this build.......at least in my opinion.

     Wow, a ten minute post........
