Nike Missle/was Proper Forum for Missles?
Posted by BigJim on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 11:09 AM

Would this be the proper forum to ask questions about missles, such as the Nike Missle? If not, where should I post?

It depends. Some are considered aircraft or real space, while others are considered a form of artillery (MLRS, SCUD) and therefore armor.

I'd say go ahead and post it here since Nike/Hercules and Nike/Ajax are long range air defense artillery.

It might be a stretch; but what the heck!

Ok, here goes.

Have any of you built the Revell Nike Missle? Anything tips about the built you can share?

Seek out a guy named "Redleg12"--he's our resident expert on all things artillery and missiles-related. I think he built something like a Nike missile launcher once?

Karl - thanks....I'm touched....hope I am not like the explosive expert.....you have to blow yourself up to become an expert Surprise......Now that we loaded that round!!

Now on to the Nike kits. First they are US Army Air Defense Artillery....yep, they belong here

As far as the kits, there are two. The 1/32 Revell Nike Ajax with launcher. This is the eariler in the Nike series. Then there is the Renwal/Revell 1/40 scale Nike Hercules which Revell has just reissued.

I built the Nike Hercules years ago and found it to be a nice kit. I currently have both kits on my shelf.

A couple of things....

  • US Army missles have a semi gloss finish, not flat.
  • The decals need care during application

That's about it. There is tons of information and pictures out there.

Any other questions feel free to PM me. I will try to help

Rounds Complete!!

I built the Testors "History Makers" Nike-Hercules a couple years ago too.  It was a pretty easy build; even won 2nd place in the Artillery category at SuperCon 2008 (my club's annual contest).

I do recall the decals being an issue; but not insurmountable.
