Hi Scott. I think this guy could really benefit from some grime. I would really dirty up the lower half and apply a bunch of pin washes on those bolts to pop things out and break up the monotone color. Have to remember these guys were tearing up the turf and throwing a lot of dirt and mud around.

    Thanks for the advice. I actually did already add some pin washes to the fuel caps on the drums and an overall all wash I learned from "the doog" but I think it doesn't turn up very well in the picture.

So you know what? MORE GRIME IT IS. I love weathering so I'll have a go at doing some more. Like you said turf, mud and dirt got thrown around a lot and being a former tanker myself I know the wash rack was not a place tanks spend a lot of time. And that was in peace time. LOL!!!

You might also try the dot filter treatment, where you add different dabs of oil paint to the sides of the hull and turret and brush up and down with a brush dabbed in mineral spirits or the such. Leaves streaks. Can be quite effective.

Well, it's a good start to work from--probably the first thing that I would recommend would be to drybrush it with base color, ie, green. That whitewash was mostly thin, as I understand it, and would wear pretty quickly from the high points which would be accented by drybrushing.

Also, use some light chipping of base color around the hatches and places where the crew would wear away the whitewash--grab handles, especially, and anywhere where you would see a crewman climbing up. You can actually "scrub" lightly on the hull where their shoes would wear away the WW. Be subtle.

Definitely get some dirt and grime in those wheels, too. And don't forget to do something with the lower hull. It looks too pristine there behind the wheels.

Those tracks in the kit suck pretty bad, too. AM tracks would be much better, if you want to put in the work and the cost.

      I actually just found your Weathering Tutorials on the Hertz and Impala and was reviewing then to get a better handle on the weathering.

I'm definitely looking at replacing the tracks, although a member of my IPMS club suggested I could just want it on a base with some terrain and then cover them with snow. Personally, think I'm going to go the AM route.

Once I have "dooged" my tanks weathering I'll repost some pics.
