Everything about this diorama is just down-right gorgeous! Paint, weathering, figures, 'forestry', water... everything... WOW! Proves that this old Tamiya kit despite its flaws can still build up to a work of art with a little AM and TLC.

OUTSTANDING!

Hey, thanks very much for your kinds words. But, I have to ask, the old Tamiya kit? Are you maybe thinking their T-62? This Tamiya T-55 is actually the most accurate, and certainly the easiest to put together, out of all of the other T-55 kits available. Definitely oversimplified in many places, but the overal turret shape, engine deck, and all major proportions are spot on. Its the finer details that are really the only thing that is left for improvement on this kit.

LOL, EXCELLENT pic, if I do say so myself.

And thanks to all of you guys for comments. I love my soviet armour, and I'll definitely after this thread try for even greater, cleaner results.

'Awesome... totally awesome!' ~ The great Jeff Spicolli

I think we build the same way, toil for months on construction only to see the paint executed in mere days.

I would not say this finish was rushed, more applied when you were on a roll! Once paint hits plastic its hard to stop along the way for WIP's, the momentum gained towards the finish line has one thinking about the next set at night while doing such in the morning.

The stream scene is perfect and will not go unnoticed on a contest table.

Tanks for posting the pictures!

Jason

Nice work on this one Zoran, the dio setting is a nice touch as well as you don't often see Cold War Soviet gear shown in one unless it's a wreck! Wink

Thanks very much for the kind comments guys, they definitely are an encouragement.

Eric, I think I agree with you on the spare track links; after taking the pictures, no matter the lighting conditions I went with, they just jump out and scream, even more so than the completely rusted exhaust; will have to see if I can remedy this.

Disastermaster, yes, I have to say that this is in fact the most extensive detailing project I've undertaken. I used to scoff at the 'research' aspect of modeling. lol, call it a lack of maturity on my part. For this T-55, I had a whole binder full of pictures and other references, and the more of the tiny details I could add, the more satisfaction I got out of it. I think a whole new world of modeling has opened up for me after this! Smile

Holy cow! That's freaking beautiful! Big Smile

The tank itself was superb in the first few pics, and then you have a diorama built up that looks twice as cool!

Love your weathering, and the groundwork is just excellent.

Ouch!!!  Another painful episode forcing me to realize how primitive my efforts remain!!!

Wonderful result!  This would be a fine example for anyone building this kit! Yes

Absolutely beautiful.......... a genuine work of art in my book!

http://th38.photobucket.com/albums/e105/CommentCrazyGirl/Smileys%20Sayings/Message%20Board/th_rockinlayout.gifThat dio in EVERY aspect is just first rate.

Maybe I missed something you built before but I think this is the most extensive piece of work I've ever seen you do.

I think you're being way to hard on yourself Zoran. That's a beautiful build. The only thing that stands out are the super rusted spare links. They (to me) just seem overdone compared to the rest of the build. The tank is perfect overall.

The base with the leaves floating on the water is excellent.

Finished Tamiya T-55 (lots of pics)
Posted by zokissima on Sunday, April 10, 2011 12:35 PM

Well, after many months of construction, and a very lazy painting process, I'm calling this one done. Took me three months to build, and a relatively short
time to paint, which shows, as it got very sloppy. Oh well, learned a lot in the process, which I'll apply to the next one.
This one is a Tamiya T-55 with a basic Voyager PE update set (small details, and fuel drums in rear are all PE). Modelpoint antenna, RB barell, and Fruil tracks.
Many small nuts and bolts, fuel lines, fenders and brackets built in wine bottle foil and styrene.

All comments welcome. Its become clear to me that I really need to start taking more care in painting. I just got way too lazy after a long build.
