Academy 1/35 Tiger 1 early production..
Posted by TankBusters on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 12:46 PM

I recently purchased this kit on line and am thrilled to death about beginning this build soon. However I have a few questions for any of you familiar with this kit ( # 1348). I use Model Masters enamels exclusively and according to painting instuctions, the motor , transaxle and transmission are supposed to be a " metalic grey". Is there such a color amongst the FS series of MM enamels??? What about a "metalizer"?  I thought about just using the steel paint but was told that this isn't what is needed. HELP!!!!

In the Metalizer line up, Dark Anodonic Gray #1412 would likely be a good replacement.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Don't get too hung up on "exact color". Look at some reference pics and mix something up that's close and go with it.

Hi TankBusters,

Welcome to the world of moving targets :)

My amateur research reveals the following;
All interior details in a vehicle are supposed to have at least a primer.
Check out the current thread by Greg Detailfreak;
/forums/t/134838.aspx for some tips.
There are hundreds of them on the forum, here is another one;
/forums/p/58956/596696.aspx

Basically anything that is shoopfloor is primer red.
Walls and transmission to the level of expansion of the lover hull, engine compartment engine and drive train are in a bluish/green - greenish/blue primer.

The engine is under constant abuse and especially things like cylinder tops will wear back to the original cast metal just because of the heat.

The rotating parts like the driving shafte are not likely to wear but to pick up some grime.
The transmission is not likely to have any other wear then the usual dents.
The breaks / couplings are likely to get well heated but are shielded and the shield is likely to be burnished but not bear metal.

I will find colour references to the colours I have referred to, these will be guestimates.
I am 100% sure the Tiger heads will correct me where I have mislead you :)
