Why name a self propelled anti aircraft weapon after a river in Russia ? Strange name . The Polish have a better name for it " maszyna do sczycia" ( sewing machine ) due to the sound of the 4 x 23 mm cannons. Must of been one heck of a loud sewing machine ! Another more appropriate nickname is "Zeus" ( Greek God of sky and thunder) now thats a good name for this weapon that has a combined rate of fire of 3400 to 4000 rounds per minute !
Sure looks great Carl! Very nice work indeed!
Oh yeah!---they are giving these things away at GM for $19.99...love it...is it OOB???
Holy smokes. What an awesome job!

Manstein ,BUY IT ! Its a good kit . The cannon assembly is a bit fiddly . This one is OOB except for the wire mesh on the exhaust , the chain that holds the log and the log is a trig off of my poplar tree .
Thanks for looking guys and your comments are much appreciated !
Why do I feel like there are gonna be some more of these here soon?
Nice take on a subject not often seen (at least by me).
Everything the Sergeant York wasn't, simple and effective. Great job on this one and just goes to show what a good build and paint job can do to spruce up an OOB build. Congrats!!
Pat.
Very nice job indeed!
I saw one of these "accurized" and tricked out with some Jaguar interior drop-ins, plumbed-coolong system for the guns, etc..etc...in an issue of MMiR and I must say that yours looks as good as his and he probably put a couple of hundred more hours into his...!!! He did a tri-color scheme which I thought was cool.
Awesome job...
Pretty nice for an OOB build and I bet this looks real nice in your display case!!
One of my favorites.
There's a bunch of minor things that could be added to this kit without too much effort if one was so inclinded to do so. IE: Water hoses and muzzle caps with wires for the guns, a few cables for the radar and some IFF antennas mounted on the radar dish to mention a few.
This vehicle also had its share of teething problems although not mcovered in the press like the Sgt. York's problems were. This was really never fully tested in G toA combat and is easily countered electronically. It turned out to be one hell of an effective (and expensive) anti-personel weapon tho.

Great job on an extremely cool vehicle!
Nicely done! Don't see as much modern armor done as we should I think so it's always nice to see the Cold War stuff in particular get some due.

Very nice work Shellback!!! Some really great finishing techniques used to make an (almost) OOB build shine! My only critique would be to have the sprocket teeth bared (paint scraped off to bare metal) where they contact the tracks... but that is so tiny compared to the overall wow factor you achieved here.
MM, Actually the ZSU was very thouroughly combat tested in the Oct 1973 Yom Kippur/Ramadan War. When used in conjunction with the SA-6 (especially) and SA-7 they denied the IDFAF the ability to deliver the CAS, that they had become so adept at, in the opening days of that war. The Arab defenses took a fearful toll of aircraft over the Sinai and Golan Heights. The electronic countermeasures (and tactics) developed were a result of the expensive lessons of that war.

Cool build Carl. I always liked these cold war relics. I love the tonal varaiations going on and the rest of the weathering. Used, but not abused. Home run bud.

I would suggest getting ahold of the RB Models barrel set for the ZSU-23. It will definitely set the model off even more.

I get all of my RB Models barrels at www.jbmodel.eu
Great prices, and I get orders from him (from Austria) faster than via USPS from Squadron (in Texas). Go figure.
Very cool job on a very cool vehicle. If I were a NATO pilot this would scare the #@#$ out of me.
If my stash wasn't already full to bursting I'd have to pick up one of these bad boys.
