This is some fantastic work.  The guns, chains and the way you shaded, everything made this build pop.

Inspiring work there Carl, you definitely have a natural talent for taking older kits and turning them around.

SHellback,

Beautiful work on this fine model. Your painting and weathering skill is well-noted and it would be a pleasure to see more of your work!

My only critique would be of your photo quality. Your photos have a really odd sepia-tinge to them. It must be something to do with either the photo background or a bad setting on your white balance on your camera.

I took the liberty of using one of your photos and simply running it through the "auto-correct" in Microsoft Office Picture Manager, and it really cleaned it up nicely. If anything it's a quick fix if you can't figure out the yellowing of the photos. Right is your original photo. I think the left, corrected photo really is more flattering to your finish?

Just saw this now. Love it. Its a beautiful finish, very strong contrast, just a pleasure to watch. I've built this old kit years ago, and you've definitely managed to make this cold war beast shine.

I get all of my RB Models barrels at www.jbmodel.eu

Great prices, and I get orders from him (from Austria) faster than via USPS from Squadron (in Texas). Go figure.

Yeah I got my Zeus(Nato codename for ZSU) barrels from there too as well as a 30mm cannon for the BMP2.

Very cool job on a very cool vehicle. If I were a NATO pilot this would scare the #@#$ out of me.

If my stash wasn't already full to bursting I'd have to pick up one of these bad boys.

 Shellback:

Eric thats one heck of a complement ! There are some really great looking models in MMIR , thanks for your comparison !

$ 15 bucks is a good deal , i might concider ordering another one at that price .

I would suggest getting ahold of the RB Models barrel set for the ZSU-23. It will definitely set the model off even more.

Where are those available?

MM, Actually the ZSU was very thouroughly combat tested in the Oct 1973 Yom Kippur/Ramadan War. When used in conjunction with the SA-6 (especially) and SA-7 they denied the IDFAF the ability to deliver the CAS, that they had become so adept at, in the opening days of that war. The Arab defenses took a fearful toll of aircraft over the Sinai and Golan Heights. The electronic countermeasures (and tactics) developed were a result of the expensive lessons of that war.

I stand corrected Stik... thanks. Bow Down

Thanks,

Cool build Carl. I always liked these cold war relics. I love the tonal varaiations going on and the rest of the weathering. Used, but not abused. Home run bud.

This was really never fully tested in G toA combat and is easily countered electronically. It turned out to be one hell of an effective (and expensive) anti-personel weapon tho.

Very nice work Shellback!!! Some really great finishing techniques used to make an (almost) OOB build shine! My only critique would be to have the sprocket teeth bared (paint scraped off to bare metal) where they contact the tracks... but that is so tiny compared to the overall wow factor you achieved here.

Nicely done! Don't see as much modern armor done as we should I think so it's always nice to see the Cold War stuff in particular get some due. Beer

Pretty nice for an OOB build and I bet this looks real nice in your display case!!

One of my favorites.

There's a bunch of minor things that could be added to this kit without too much effort if one was so inclinded to do so. IE: Water hoses and muzzle caps with wires for the guns, a few cables for the radar and some IFF antennas mounted on the radar dish to mention a few.

This vehicle also had its share of teething problems although not mcovered in the press like the Sgt. York's problems were. This was really never fully tested in G toA combat and is easily countered electronically. It turned out to be one hell of an effective (and expensive) anti-personel weapon tho.

Yes

Thanks,
Kevin Keefe
