We got NUTHIN in Chapel Hill. NC. A few breezes, a few drops of rain, but nothing resembling more than a miserable, wet day.

I feel cheated. Hey, at least we felt the earthquake, though!

Lucky you are so far inland ,Doog.... the center line of the track goes practically through my back yard!

From what I heard on the media tonight- this thing was way over hyped- I heard the winds were down to 50 MPH -i hope that's true, and there is minimal damage.

Heck, we regulary have winds of 70 mph or more here in Denver, and no big deal.

Anyhow, I wish you guys the best and hope you sustain no damage out there in the East.

I hope all of you guys stay safe and sound. And please, secure the models.

Good to hear.

Anthony, glad you and your family are OK.  Saw the report that a local hobby shop was looted, hope it wasn't you? 

Heck, it made landfall in Little Egg Harbor inlet NJ, about 5 miles from my house, and we had minimal damage and the lagoon reached the top of the bulkhead but never made it over. We had a mandatory evac so we went to some friends house not very far from ours but inland a bit. We were allowed back at noon today. The sad thing is, my brother , who lives in Holland PA and no where near water, had his beautifully renovated basement flood with about 8" of water when the electric went out, killing his sump pump...go figure.

We got a good spanking from this Irene so-and-so....    about 6" or rain and some decent winds. What pss'd me off the most is that our power was out for about 15 hours...   this cut, heavily, into my Sunday bench time!!  (grrr)

But, we're safe and dry for the most part.

Nothing in the DC area, but my uncle in St. Mary's County, MD had 7 trees down(2 on his house, 3 on his driveway) the problem wasn't the wind, it was the rain. Once the ground is that soft and moist it doesn't take much wind to bring the trees down... He and his family are fine, minimal damage to the house thankfully!

she sure kicked my butt, had about 20 inches of water in my cellar/shop not even sure what I lost I'm more worried about the furnace and water heater,I know my air brush compressor was fully submurged so that might be a loss. I'm afraid to go into that room as that is the "deep end" of the cellar a good 5" deeper than the other side. Moving to Florida is sounding better and better...

PS not sure of my meager stash as thats in there too,plus 2 weeks ago my dog knocked over a shelf and destoyed 11 models 5 for monthly contests not having a few good weeks.Need to start drinking again,lol.....

Bummer, John.  I'm sorry to hear of your loss.  But think twice about moving to Florida, they have more hurricane risks there.  I used to live near Atlanta and we often got clipped by hurricane outskirts, even that far inland. 

I now live near Denver and we don't have to worry about hurricanes,  We live near the front range of the Rocky Mountains and that seems to protect us from severe storms and even occasionl tornadoes, which usually form far east of us.  It's a good place to live, weather-wise.

I don't know if moving to Florida will help you avoid hurricanes.

supposedly where my Grandmother wants to move they don't get hit bad (Keysville area) I'm not real familar with Florida last time I was there I was 5 lol, but I assumed the whole state would get hit all the time.But my 2 cousins live there and said they rarely get hit.Its in the middle of the state between Daytona and Clearwater. Plus the house has a 40x60 shop with 2 lifts in it so I can do my buissness down there alot easier than here.See what happens.

Mostly clear in southern NB. some short but intense rainshowers during the day yesterday; a pretty good series of thunderstorms that only lasted 30 minutes or so; LOTS of wind overnight knocking out power to 57,000 customers in our little province. I woke up to a blinking alarm clock & a few downed branches in the neighbourhood.

Sorry for your situation John,good you can still laugh,hope you have a quick recovery

15 hours.... hell, I'll be lucky to have power back at my house in15 days. The powerlines up and down the road are shredded by trees, one end of my road is completely blocked. Because we live in a small town, I don't figure we're going to be that big of a priority.

Fortunately, no real damage to our house. No water came in and only some good sized tree branches came down.

Glad to hear that most came through unscathed (sorry to hear about the flooding John!). Definitely been an unusual year weather-wise for all of the country, I can only imagine what this year's winter might be like.

Lost a tree, which is par for the course on saturated alluvial soil. Of course the crown (canopy) landed in my swimming pool, so I spent Sunday fishing leaves, gum balls (the fruit of American Sweetgum, not of vending machines), and whatnot out of the biomass gumbo.

If I'm correct, it's been a record year $$$$ wise from all the tornados, flooding, and hurricanes. Obviously people have perished and other lives have been disrupted. Sadly, it puts life into perspective sometimes.

Hope all can hang on until the worst is over.

Glad to see most people made it through Irene O.K.  

This tree fell across my street, missed my jeep by a few feet and smacked into my neighbors' garage. It still sits there with its full weight pulling down on energized or live wires ....

Since I live on a dead end street, I get a day off!

I can't figure out why the power company hasn't fixed it yet ?... I would cut it with my chain saw, but with live wires it is a no- no.... the wires are under a lot of pressure and could break anytime...and my car won't fit under it to leave my house...the last pic is of my savior, my 6000 peak watt generator...It can power my bedroom A/C, my 42" TV, 2 computers,modem,bedroom and bathroom lighting all at once!                                                   here are some pics

We got about 4 inches of rain, some seepage into the basement by way of the bulkhead, but very quickly cleaned up with the shop vac. Winds had died down pretty significantly by the time it got here. I had a few branches and some deadfall in the yard and in the street in front of the house.

Historically, the biggest issue with huricanes in New England is flooding from large amounts of rain being dumped on hills and having nowhere to go. After the disasters of the mid 50's, and the huge floods of the late 30's, the government stepped in and placed quite a bit of money into flood control dams and dikes. The dams can hold water back in uninhabited areas and release it more gradually downstream through populated areas. Last night, about 7 pm, the Connecticut River was pretty normal along the bike path in the next town south. The Westfield, a mile or so from me, was quite the torrent going through a narrow gorge. At 11 this morning, the Connecticut was at least 6 feet higher at the same spot than it was last night. I suspect the path androad will be shut down sometime today. US Route 20 which parallels I-90 nf is a major commuter road from the west into Springfield was shut down for at least part of yesterday and this morning.

Brattleboro VT, which borders MA and NH on the Connecticut had a major river running through its main streets. I suspect they will have some serious losses.

While the storm lost intensity relatively quickly, loss of life was on the low side and some of that was Darwin at work. I guess teh mandatory evacuations may have done their jobs. It really wasn't until later on Saturday, as the energy was being spent over the mid-Atlantic strates that it started to look like the storm's impact on the northeast would be less than expected. Had there been a shift of even 50 miles east, I think there would have been some serious problems in southern New England and Long Island.

I suspect you, like me, are a victim to priorities. Sure, that tree is both a huge inconvenience and a definate danger, but it is only impacting a couple of people. There are probably a couple hundred or thousand other trees in the exact same state, but impacting larger numbers, so those are the priority for the limited resources your power company has.

And yes, DO NOT under any circumstances, try to cut that tree.

Ironic story - I was at my dad's in northern Maine a couple months ago cleaning out his house. In the shed was a brand new generator he had purchased but never used. I figured, 'hey, that might come in handy some day', so I wanted to bring it with me. Unfortunately I didn't have room in the van for it. But, I figured, what's the likelihood I'll need it any time soon..... I'll just come back and get it in the fall...

finally got the water down to shop vac level about an hour ago,just taking a break now.Still havent ventured into my shop. Also went into the garage for the first time today since the storm and alot got wet in there I guess the roof leaked some,have to try and dry out my welders and mechanic tools on top of the cellar.... Never ends
