Is that a M24 Chafee in the background?

I have heard Dragon sometimes later releases what is on the background on other new releases. That would be really cool.

Great price for the composite sherman.

Doogs,
Congratulations on your new job.
Looks like a sweet set of kits you have there too.
I am getting curious about the Jeep to - think I built a Tamiya version back in 1977 already!
But the must have is the MKIV.
Looking forward to your progress pictures as always.

Thanks for sharing

Nice haul, some interesting kits there (fav has to be the IV-J)...look forward to seeing them get their turn at the bench! Beer

I think the IV-J is my favorite, too. Interesting subject, awesome scheme options, and the kit itself looks fantastic and actually a step up in a few areas over the IV-G I just built.

Since I'm in my "Time of Tanks" right now, I've been tearing through the construction phase. Tasca M4A3(76)W is built and back in the box until after the move. I'm building up Trumpy's KV-2 now. Next, I want to try a Dragon Sherman (M4A4, M4 Composite Hull, Firefly Vc or Firefly Ic?) to compare with the Tasca. After that, who knows. The rate I'm going, I'm guessing I'll be able to put away at least five tanks before the bench can handle painting operations again...

How's the new Dragon Jeep compare to the one Tamiya released around 97-98 or so? Hard to believe that one's been around for over a decade; it was the best depiction of the iconic truck that we'd seen in plastic.

Just looking at Great Models' website, it is priced twice that as the Tamiya kit, but comes with a ton of SAS desert fittings. GM prices it at $33, but the Tamiya kit + Verlinden conversion would be $16+$20, so it is a better deal if you want a desert Jeep.

I'm curious, does it come with parts to make a plain Jane Jeep with windshield or does it only build into an SAS Jeep like Tamiya's old one did?

Manstein's revenge

 Manstein's revenge:

It's a wee thing, but I've got a major weakness for the LRDG AND the Willys. I almost bought the 1/6 scale version of this sucker...

That jeep pan looks a lot like the Tamiya moulding!?!  Did Dragon ever pop a jeep before this issue???

NO!

...tsk, tsk...that could be construed as baiting, tigerman.  Since everyone is so hypersensitive these days I'm gonna start calling folks out as well, especially if they have the HIGHEST POST COUNT in the Forum...

I think you were kidding, and I am, too.  So maybe next time put a smiley after the one-word-post.  Ooops, someone doesn't like those either.  Never mind...

Sorry about the off-topic post, Doogs---its tigerman's fault...

No, I'm not baiting anyone. Forgot the winkie. Wink I promise I won't use that again, but maybe a hint? Okay, you coined it, it's yours. You are allowed to do with it whatever you'd like.

We've always had a playful parlay between one-another, except once. Besides, I respect your A/C builds to much to create a rift with you. Wink

Doogs, nice fetch. I'd love to have the SAS Jeep kit. I build the old Tamiya one years ago and it was decent. My friend Ed (Schnobs) built a gorgeous one and placed it in a dio with camels. Superb work.

I believe I read a review stating that this is entirely new mold (the guy was expecting the old Italeri w some PE, I guess?). Tigerman - I remember seeing that one as it was WIP-ing its way along the forums.

Don't expect that kind of output from me!

I built the older late J back when it came out, maybe '94 or so,  I think I bought it at the IPMS Omaha nationals that year.  It was okay for the time, looks the part.  However some things can be improved.  I never liked the way the track in the kit looked.   Dragon's newer PzkfwIVs are things of beauty.  They have all the bells and whistles and fit is wondrous.  In fact, all of Dragon's recent kits have fit that is as good as  Tamiya's.  They are certainly better detailed.   I really haven't even had any real problems with the instructions.  " Instructions!  We don't need any stinking instructions"!  I'm looking forward to getting mine any day now.  I'll be getting the Jeep and the Neubaufarhzeug on Tuesday. Have fun with all your new goodies!  The future looks good.

Cool beans---the old molding of the late J was a nightmare--they had you building the skirts with this really stiff black fabric mesh that was just a nightmare to work with.

I may be tempted to replace my old unbuilt one with one of these new offerings!

Yeah, I built the IV in the spring and just finished the Cyber-Hobby Pz.III-L (which shares a decent-ish number of parts). Lots of commonality between the G and the J, but LOTS that's been improved or rejiggered, and the instructions seem more legible. Whether they're right, on the other hand...

A Storm of Pre-orders
Posted by DoogsATX on Saturday, September 17, 2011 3:57 PM

Today is a good day!

Yesterday, I got a call from the LHS that a kit I'd ordered through them to celebrate the new job came in. So today I went to pick it up. BTW...just picking through the sprues (a lot of them are new), and glancing at the instructions, I have a feeling this is going to be one of Dragon's best kits.

The chain link is very well executed, too, with fine mesh, and PE edges. There's even two plastic parts that act as a press jig to fold the PE properly. A lot of the frustrating bits of Dragon Panzers - the turret hatch hinges spring to mind - seem to be rather different this time around. Looking very forward to this one!

And then, when I got home, I found a box waiting for me. I pre-ordered a kit from Dragon a while back, along with a few others that were on ridiculous sale. Guess I must've overlooked the shipping notice.

The first...the pre-order...

It's a wee thing, but I've got a major weakness for the LRDG AND the Willys. I almost bought the 1/6 scale version of this sucker...

Next...

This will be Sherman #8, counting the one I've built, the one I'm building, and the others in the stash. But it was like $23...not passing that up!

And finally...

Didn't expect and was happily surprised to see that it came with PE schurzen. The molded zimm looks pretty solid, too.
