Gonna be two Henschels: the regular one, and the absolute final version that has the different track hangers and whatnot.

Tigers a-plenty!

You might wanna watch that "Tiger Attack!" show on the History Channel tonite.... if you get that channel. They show some really nice KT footage including that propaganda footage where Rosen is inspecting his KT group.

The camo patterns on some of the KT's looked very very cool.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess it was just a matter of time, as the good folks at DML had done the work on the Jagdtiger back in the 90's.

The more kits the better. I always love the comparison pics between kits, DML and Tamiya sitting side by side. What would be really fun would be to find a pic of the real deal, reduce it, and then have it side by side with the Tamiya and DML!

Problem is that, I think, all the Porsche turm Tiger II's had zimmerit. [:0] Mirage makes a resin zimm set for the Tamiya kit which includes a complete replacement turret.

WIPW, the show is on in the USA at 9pm EST. I don't think the Tiger I is a real one -- I think it's one of those T-34/Tigers.

Thanks, Larry. I figured it would probably be on about that time, but wasn't sure. I hope I can watch it. My wife and all the kids will be home tonight and none of them will be "having" to do homework!! Gee, maybe I can at least get some modeling done! LOL

My understanding is the Porsche turret Tiger II's did have zimmerit! I find it hard to believe that with all the after-market companies out there that it won't be long until someone will make a 'zimmerit' set for this kit! Maybe Cavalier or Atak?

What I find hard to beleive is that the thing doesn't come with the zimmerit molded on. What's up with that? Leaving the zimm off of a tank that always had it is basically making an inaccurate model of the vehicle, aint it? It's not much worse than selling an IDF M-60 with no reactive armour.

Anyhow, the set I mentioned, the Mirage set, may be ok for this kit too. It is the same vehicle, after all. (Ducks.)

Funny you should mention molded zimmerit Larry, that's one thing I like about my Italeri Sturmtiger. It looks better than the pe that came with my Panther. I imagine that it's about tooling and the costs. It gives the builder two options rather than one.

The Tiger show was also mentioned in another thread. Worth watching.

Good for you Bill, you need a break after laboring on those tracks!

Dwight a Kingtiger Group Build, maybe in September? LOL

Not quite as good as Great Models, but I don't have to pay shipping!! And I can have it tomorrow!!!! Yea!! (Just got to figure out how to hide this one!!) lol

Hmmmm....lets see 40 miles each way? What kind of vehicle does Bill drive? Have to cover the gas! Hope the wife doesn't miss him! Oh...and.....Hmmmmm....did Bill say "47" kits in stock. Now is it too much of a stretch to imagine more than one kit leaving the store...like maybe two. Or maybe other kits...since you're at the store anyway! Saves on another return trip!

Good luck with the Mrs!

Lets see I am off to a HS that specialises in Military Models, if they haven't got the Kugelblitz I might get the KT II Kit instead.

Looks better to me than the E-100 Kit, haven't peeked inside the Boxes as my LHS shrinkwraps their Kits.

Will be back in about 2hrs.

Ok, came back with my first Dragon Kit. Big Smile [:D]

"King Tiger with Porsche Turret".

The KugelBlitz is out of stock for now by the looks of it, so I placed a pre-order for it.

After opening the Box I must that I am impressed with the quality of plastic and casting, individual tracks look like a copy of the Tamiya King Tiger tracks + ejector pin marks.(Will most likely be using a spare set of the Tamiya tracks)

Things I am not too impressed with the Kit:
1.) Instructions, some japanese makers now also use those coloured ones. Don't like them.
2.) Will also replace the string for the cable with AM cable that is sold over here.

Finally one question:

Will the FineMolds Periscope set 1 work with the Dragon Kit??

I have the new Dragon kit, too.
The only thing I don't understand is the huge square chunk that is a separate part on the left side of the turret, under the cupola. For a later non-pistol ported version, perhaps? A bit extreme for that, considering it would have been much easier for everyone involved to just have the small, round pistol port cover itself as a seperate part.

No big deal smoothing those seams out once the square piece is in place, but it just seems so unwarranted.

Other than that, it looks like a great kit.

Always good to have options, no?

J-Hulk.

I agree it is a nice kit, in a few areas I find the detail a bit clunky but that might disappear as the kit gets finished.

Looking at the price of the Kit, I don't see that much difference over an equivalent Tamiya Kit when it comes to adding upgrade parts, casting quality, etc.
Also agree that it is nice to have a few new subjects available, to be honest if I was given options between a Tamiya and Dragon kit of the same subject I would have a hard time choosing one.

One thing for me in favour of Tamiya are that they include Figures, granted I got a calendar and a sprue of clothing added to the Dragon Kit. Wink [;)]

Not knocking Dragon at all, but I simply don't see them as a great improvement over the current available Kits.

We're in agreement there, MMF. The Tamiya kit is hard to beat, or improve on, in my opinion. I've also heard it's best to use the Tamiya road wheels with the Dragon kit, too.

Dragon did add a few missing details on the hull, and I like Dragon's representation of the weld marks on the hull and turret (moot point for most Porsche Tiger IIs: aside from the first two prototypes, all had zimmerit). Haven't built the Dragon kit yet, so I can't comment on the fit, but I doubt (from experience) it could beat Tamiya.

I suppose the most interesting version will be the very late Henschel version.
We shall see!

I like the final version, with the 18-tooth sprockets and cool trax.
Should be interesting!

Well, I managed to get the KT! I broke down and told my wife about it before I left. It's just SO much easier that way! LOL. And, I managed to get out of the store with just the one kit...Oh that was tough! I really want to get one of the DML Hummels or the new 251 ausf C. But they will come, in time!!

I looked over the kit when I got home. The molding all looks very well done. The tracks look pretty good, except for the ever present ejector pin marks. They appear to be "outties" so might not be quite as much trouble to fix up as the "inney" kind. The DML "picture" instructions are either loved or hated by everyone. About the time I think I totally hate them, I look at one of DML's drawn type instructions and figure the picture ones aren't really that bad. I don't think anyone beats Tamiya's!

Brian and MMF, maybe this kit doesn't have a lot of advantage, mold wise, over the Tamiya kit, but it's sure a lot cheeper! That's the one place DML has it all over Tamiya!

Assuming both Tamiya's and DML's kits are fairly accurate in shape, I would further assume Cavilear's zimmerit for the Tamiya kit should fit the DML kit pretty well. Anyone tried it on the Tamiya kit? How well does it fit and look?? (After the Panther, I'd really like to take a break on zimmerit for a while!!

Have a great day, all.

Hiya, Bill!
Congrats on the Tiger score!
What? Cheaper? It's about 7 US dollars MORE expensive than the Tamiya kit here in Japan! 3,800 Yen for the Dragon kit versus 3,000 Yen for the Tamiya Porsche Turret kit. Sounds like Dragon has a better import deal than Tamiya!

DML is $34 compared to $41 for the Tamiya (retail prices). However, in my swiss cheese state of mind, I admit I was thinking of the price of the Tamiya Ardennes King, which is $50. Even if I get the DML Henschel when it comes out, I'll still probably get the Tamiya Ardennes, eventually, because of the figure set and the motorcycle model that's in it. Can't have too many kits and especially Tigers!! lol

Haven't heard from you in a long time, Brian. How are things going? Going to order the mantlet for the E this weekend, I think!

Take care.

Bill, you forgot to mention the $20-30 you'll save on indy tracks and $10 for pe grilles.(I can't remember if it came with grilles, but I thought I read that it did.). Add that up and you could buy two kits! Sounds like a better deal to me.

How are the links provided with the KT, Eric? I was a bit disappointed by the links that came with the Panther. I loved those big momma links in the Maus set though! Laugh [(-D]
