Another quickie... Jagdpanzer IV L/70 - DONE Pg.2
Posted by wing_nut on Sunday, October 2, 2011 11:20 PM

A quiet weekend and wife and daughter a bit under the weather I had a couple of good bench days.  This is the Dragon Jagdpanzer IV L-70 early in 1/72.  Very nice detail, pretty good fit overall.  Except for that one wrench onthe front fender, all the tools are separate and really nice moldings. The part just behind the barrel (mantlet on this tank?) needed a tiny bit of reshaping at the edge and a lot of grinding down the inside to fit right with an ugly gap or thick edge.  That was given some casting texture with Mr. Surfacer.  The plates armor has torch marks added and the welds were improved after softening with some Tenax.  New armor was made from plastic card and springs for the rear mud guards made with .003 wire wrapped on a #80 drill bit.  Had to make about 6 to get 2.  The other 4 "sprung... or is it sprangedTongue Tied" off into oblivion.

Eric... on my way over to the GB section to check it out.  But a quick detour to the stash to see what may work for that time frame.

Bill, Shell... thanks.

Painting has begun and nearly done.  1st coat was red brown, then apply some blu-tac, then gren, then more blu-tac, then drk yellow, peel the blu-tac and give it a filter of very diluted buff to tone it all down and pull it together.  A bonuswas the filter took care of most of the little "too soft" edges that needed to be touched up.

Very nice build, wouldn't guess its so small. I find blu tac to gritty and much prefer white tac, but its the results that count.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Nice build Sir, top job Yes

Andy: "Quickie" is name given to anything done, well, quickly!

This slang word usually refers to a quick romp or 'jump' with the missus but can be applied to anything really.

I hope that clears things up Wink

Hey Senor Nut - thought you might appreciate these. Definitely the best part of having a garden in your back yard!

Maybe I'll dry a few and grind them up for you for Christmas. It's scientifically proven that eating hot peppers increases the speed at which you model (not that you need any help this week)!

Back to your regularly scheduled quickie. Propeller

Nice looking paint, Marc! Just be careful--I've read some guys' reports that said that that Blu-Tac can leave some kind of residue or taint on the base coat that's hard to get rid of?

Doog - I think Blu-Tac works the same way as silly putty in that once you knead out some of the oils from a "fresh" batch, it no longer leaves that residue.

I use blue-tac all the time for masking and never had a problem with residue...of course the chunk I have has been well handled and painted with many many times over (and I also use enamels not acrylics). Not all blue-tack is created equal however so depending on the brand and composition, some residue could be possible. Mine is by 3M FWIW and picked up about 5 years ago. Big Smile

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I am using Bostick Blu-Tack and it is not in any way gritty.  Smooth as a baby's hind quarters.

Doog, no problem at all with it leaving any kind of mark., even with doing some speed drying in the dryer on a sweater rack.  Any little bits that were reluctant to come off where picked up with a little ball of the stuff and came of clean.

Marc, those are some of the best looking home grown peppers I've seen. Very yummy looking.

A 1 week build, 95% done in a couple of days and the last 5% was like the last few minutes of an NFL or NBA game.  Seemed to go on forever.

But it got done in the end.  So here is the Dragon Jagdpanzer IV L-70, early production in 1/72 scale.  The cleaning rods 3 gigundo sprue gates in it. Really Dragon?  For something that small?  No way that coming off the tree in 1 piece so I  replaced the rods.

Thanks for looking.
