Is there any way to convert a Panther A into a Panther G. Im specifically speaking about the Tamiya kit.

If its the early tamiya kit, you take the box, put in bin, buy new Panther G. (My 10y/o loved it but even he thought it was lacking)

If Tamiya have any other Panther A kits (I dont know if they do but if they do) find a good reference book and move any things that need to be moved, eg headlights, decide if want zimmerit, many G's dont need it, you may need to change road wheel types, A major difference is the slope of side armor is different (so it sthe same as the jagdpanther, elimination of drivers vision hatch on front glacis replaced with a rotating periscope, hull top hathces were also changed, most G's also had 2 single exhaust tubes, some G'd also had different engine deck layout and late G's also had a modified chin on the mantlet.

hope that helps

Take the Tamiya  ausf A kit and sell it.  Then use whatever you get for it to help buy either  a Tamiya or Dragon G.  There are several real nice ones.  The work it would take to convert the Tamiya ancient A is so much that I can't imagine even trying to do it.

Sorry, but then I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to converting or scratchbuilding.  Easier to just buy the right kit, for me anyway.

Get the Dragon kit. It comes with PE grills, which you'll need and Indy tracks. Get the Smart Kit, not the older Imperial kit.

A better question would be, why the heck would you even want to? You'd spend more time trying to make a semi-decent conversion than if you picked one up cheap on eBay!

Like everyone else has mentioned, the conversion would be so involved you'd be further ahead buying a G kit. There are enough differences between an A and G that converting one would be a waste of time and effort, particularly when there are top quality kits of both marks available.

I guess Tankluver got a somewhat unexpected answer! LOL

Just an FYI for you, Tankluver: the Tamiya Panther A is likely one of the single most inaccurate 1/35 kits being sold today.  (I know there are some E European and some old Trumpeter kits that are trash -- but none are in store shelves like Hobby Lobby and the like -- selling a decent volume, I'm sure)

Aside from all the deficincies in the Tamiya Panther A, there were substantial differences between the A and G. The shape and angle of the hull sides, the resulting contours to the front and rear hull plates. The elimination if the drivers vision slot in the glacis, different engine deck and exhaust arrangements, new configuration of the driver and bow gunner hatches, reinforced mantlet "chin" on later production Gs. In essence most of the hull would need to be scratchbuilt. And seeing how the Tamiya A turret has shape problems... There are plenty of G kits out there that can be had for not too much more than a Tamiya A if you shop around wisely. Shanghai Dragon's are the least expensive.
