I should also have mentioned another old school photo etch company, On The Mark (OTM) out of Louisville, CO, that made Panther A screens specifically for the old Tamiya Panther A kit. Here is a 1998 description of the OTM set:

Our Panther-A Screens (AR-3529-S) include four rectangular screens, two round screens, two fans to go underneath the kit's round cowlings, the small round screen to go over the deep-wading tube cover, and small Grandt-Line hex-nut castings for the corners of the rectangular screens. List price for the frame is $8, plus 75c/frame for shipping (US rate).

Be advised, that this information is from 1998 and the phone number and email address may or may not be valid, but it never hurts to try. The man's name is Mark.

Robert,

Armor Research Accessories has a PE screen set specifically for the old Tamiya Panther A kit.  I bought a set about 5 years ago.  The PE is very simplified - the screens do not have the 'woven" mesh of more advanced PE, but they do fit nicely.  I believe ARA went of out business last year (?) so it may be very difficult to find this set, but if you can it could save you the trouble of making your own.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

Yup, that's what I was thinking as well - save a couple of bucks going down that route.

We'll see how it goes.

Best

This kit is so old and so inaccurate that I"m not surprised no one bothered making upgrades for it. Experienced modelers generally avoid this oldie-but-baddie.

If you're going to detail it, go "old-school" like the man said before me--old screen for the grills, styrene strips for frames, bolts cut from styrene rod. Make it like your daddy would have. Wink

I'd just get some screen window repair kit pieces or other type of mesh gauze and cut it to fit. Scraps of wedding veil material and the like work just fine.

So I pulled this old kit off the shelf and decided to have some fun with it.  Decided to see how far I bump up the detailing and make it into a decent looking build.  My question is - does anyone know if an ecthed rear grill set for a Dragon Panther G will fit this kit as I cant seem to find one thats specifically made for this kit?  Thanks in adavance for any suggestions.

Best

Robert
