Terrific work! I too would have thought she were 1/35th until you said 1/76. Really nice job on picking out the details and weathering there.

And congrads on the grandchildren!

And happy ANZAC day to you sir.

Hi Mike!

That's a very nice build! Yes

Your work with highligtning the panels, applying washes, the attention to the details and the weathering really payed off. IMO it can be mistaken for a 1/35 kit - and THAT'S unusual! Thanks for the Vallejo recipe for English green - it will come in handy!

I'm also quite impressed by the details of the Airfix kit. As I remember them, they were quite a nightmare to build, since the fitting was so poor. Especially their Churchill kit drove me crazy.  Maybe they've shaped up.

Looking forward to the "habitat" your about to build. I always go for a diorama for tanks in 1/72 scale. It seems that smaller kits really benefit from being "framed" that way, by being put into a diorama, even if its just a small, simple one, like in the old Matchbox kits.

And lastly, congratulations on the little ankle-biter that's on it's way (isn't that a Australian expression?)! Big Smile

Congrats Mike both on the impending grand-baby addition and on your Cromwell! Beer

Thanks Bill. Our eldest grand daughter is a little miracle. Eight weeks prem and mum (our daughter)  nearly died. All is wonderful now, but it was not so good sixteen months ago.

Cromwell build was great fun, got an urban style base lined up for it to live on.

Been a while since I last posted here as it has been a busy time in the family. Suddenly my wife and I are grandparents to one with another on the way!

Some quick snaps of the Cromwell before base work commences.

Not 100% done (when is a model truly 100% done?) as yet.

I used a custom SCC-15 mix provided to me by Mike Starmer. SCC-15 was the standard green used on British armour in NW Europe during 1944. The Vallejo paint mix is as per below;

888 Olive Grey 50%
882 Russian Uniform 50%

I lightened the base colour mix with yellow ochre to fade panels, highlighting etc.

Mig brown filter for dark green and a pin wash of Mig dark wash applied. I cut the pin wash with 50% lighter fluid to ensure a flatter finish.

The tracks lack detail on inside but paint up well with good outside detail. Once the pigment wash was applied, the lack of inside detail did not appear to be as noticeable.

I painted these chocolate brown, drybrushed over flat black primer. Polished steel was drybrushed on high points and the track teeth. Finally a slurry wash of various Mig pigments to "mud 'em up" was added.

This is a superlative kit, even with the interesting running gear assembly and track detail shortcomings.

Next up is a habitat for this British beast.
