J-Hulk's M1 & T-55(?)
Posted by J-Hulk on Sunday, February 8, 2004 11:00 AM
Howdy, folks!Smile [:)]
Scanmania continues as I resurrect ancient pictures from decades ago vua the magic of Hewlett-Packard scanning technology!

Here's a pic of two pieces of armor I did way back in 1991:

I had just gotten back into modeling after several years away from the hobby.
In the foreground is Tamiya's M1 Abrams (with the 105mm gun) and Lindberg's (!) T-55, which I think I must've done as the Israeli Ti-67 version, one of the options of the kit. I think the markings are from the Monogram M-48 kit.

I have no recollection at all of what colors I used, but it's obvious from the pix that I used the same color on both vehicles! Whatever it was, it was Testors Model Master, from a rattlecan.

The main recollection I have of the Lindberg kit was that it was fairly decent! Nice fit, easy build. It's probably wildly inaccurate, but at the time I thought the detail was nice.

For some reason I cut off the wind sensor from the rear of the turret on the M1. No idea why; maybe I thought it was a snorkle or something.

It's fun looking back at models you built 13 years ago! And trying to remember what you did and why you did it! Big Smile [:D]

Your skills as a modeller were quite evident even back then Brian. Two very clean builds.

Thanks for sharing with us.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

At least your builds from 13 years ago are shelf worthy, mine went to my son. Nice looking Brian.

They look good. I was only 2 13 years ago so i didn't think i made very models. Interesting to think what my models will look like in the future though.

I agree. Even at that time, your works are already impressive. Great collection, J-hulk.

Very nice ones, J-Hulk!. At that time (13 years ago) I was still modeling myself. But I dare not show my works because they were either plain vanilla or outright ugly. ;-)

Thanks for all the kind words, folks! At the time, these two tanks were my finest works.

I was thinking it might make for an interesting thread if folks posted some pix of their early works. I have tons of pix of early stuff that I would never show anybody in any other context! I actually have a pic of one of my very first tanks, built when I was 9 or 10 years old.

Sounds like fun, no?

Thanks, guys!

Anybody else ever build that Lindberg T-55?
Another funny thing about it (other than me thinking it was a good kit) is that I bought it at a K-Mart, for maybe nine or ten bucks.
Ah, those were the days...you could walk into a K-Mart and pick up a T-55...You know, I bought a lot of the Monogram armor kits at a local Ace Hardware!
Go figure!
