3rd Completion of 2012! Zvezda 1:35 Carro Armato M-13/40
Posted by bufflehead on Monday, July 2, 2012 1:05 AM

Well its been a long 3 months since my last completion back in March!  I've been working on a couple of projects and this is what I just completed for Eric's (tigerman's) "That's Amore" group build, which wrapped up yesterday.  I lurked on the GB for a few months, but I couldn't resist joining with this:  Zvezda's 1:35 Carro Armato M-13/40.

Spruced it up with Friulmodel tracks, a Jordi Rubio metal barrel, a few pieces from an Eduard PE set, and some light scratchbuilding.  The Italian Army fuel cans are from Royal Model and the decals from Model Victoria.

Painted with Tamiya Acrylics, weathered with MIG products....oil paint wash, filters and pigments.

Spero che vi piaccia!

#4 should be done real soon as its been 98% complete for nearly 2 months!  I put it on hold to work on a couple of other builds.....

Ernest, you never fail to amaze me with your builds. This one might just be the cream of the crop. Non followers have no idea how much you put into this one. Well done my friend.

Nice work Ernest, I believe that the Zveda kit is the old Italieri kit which wasn't bad to begin with.

EricEmbarrassed you're just saying that because I was in your GB!!

vonryan - thanks for the kind words!  The "ACQUA" lettering actually came from the bottom of an Academy M7 decal sheet:

Bill - always a pleasure to hear from you!  I'm glad you liked the jerry cans.  I was hoping they would improve the look a little bit!

Marc -  who....me??  Angel  Thanks for stopping by for a looksee!

Mike T. - Yes, I believe the Zvezda is a repop of the old Italeri kit.  Actually not a bad kit at all (except for the tracks), just needed a little TLC to bring her up to par.  Thanks for chiming in!

Carl - Thanks Shell!  Funny yoiu mention the exhausts.  They're one item on tanks that I'm always trying to perfect and I'm still working on it.  One day I'll get it right!

Gamera - Your kind words are appreciated sir!  I actually intended to make the paint job a lighter shade for a more faded look, but I chickened out when mixing the paint....should have gone ahead and added that extra bit of white!! Oh well, next time!

terry - Yeah, an article on how to use all the great techniques and ideas from the FSM forums and its great members!  I owe it all to guys like you terry and your fantastic weathering methods!

WOW. I have yet to build an Italian tank, and while most people don't realize it, getting weathering to look good on Afrika Korps armor (and I assume Italian armor as well) can be tricky, because you aren't exactly "dirtying" it up, but it does need to look heavily used. Yours captures that look perfectly, and looks like it was just taken out of Italian service. You also blended those jerry cans really well, to a point where they look like they look rusty and dirty, but in scale. Bravo!

Another home run!  Love the stuff you'rr building.  I'm a big fan of the early war stuff-Tigers, Sherman's and Panthers are so boring to me!

Mike - I'm glad you liked the M-13/40!  I definitely had to think hard about how to weather this one since its only the second desert tank I've done.  I think I still need to perfect some of the techniques I'm using, especially for sand colored vehicles.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to try my hand at it again.

F Matthews - Thanks for checking it out and for your nice words!

Karl - Hey, you must have been busy because we haven't seen you here in a while!!  I'm still trying to get the FSM issue with your lovely Patton tank and read your article. I've learned a lot about weathering from you and I wanted to see your work on the M48!  Thanks for taking time out to comment on the M-13/40, I'm glad you liked it!

Ernest,

Yeah, I'm on my way to Bulgaria tomorrow--I just got back Wednesday from Sweden and Germany! Sheesh! I've been home for like, 3 weeks since March. It's been hell, honestly--just travel, travel, travel. I can't wait til things slow down and I get a chance to get back to a steady few weeks of plastic!
