Dot filtering options. Help!
Posted by modeler#1 on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 3:07 PM

i have been hearing about this dot filtering and have some questions. Could I use water soluble oil paints instead of oil soluble oil paints and if not what is the best solvent to use? I heard turpentine works is this true?

Not sure about a water soluble oil paint. But for the oil soluble ik have used both turps and white spirit without any problems.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

It's a matter of control. Oil paints dry with a transparency that would be more difficult to obtain w/water soluble paints.  When I do it, I used white sprits.

Here's my weathering tutorial for dot filters which should tell you everything you need to know.

NO, I would not even try to use water-based paints. Read mt toot and you'll see how versatile and effective oil filters are.

Depends what part of the world you're in too. In Australia and the UK, white spirits is the same thing as mineral spirits in the US.
