Panther w Pz IV turret (Steel Cats GB)
Posted by Bish on Monday, December 24, 2012 11:20 AM

This is the Cyber Hobby 1/35th kit of this very rare vehicle. I believe no more than 3 of these existed and as it was a field conversion, information is very thin on the ground. And there appears to be only 2 photo's of the real thing. I wanted one of these ever since i got into German armour so snapped it up when CH released it.

I added a Voyager PE set and painted with Xtracolour enamels. For weathering i used several products from AK interactive. Its the first time i used these and was really pleased.

I owe a big thanks to the guys from the Steel cats GB who helped out with info for this, and help with the figures uniforms which i will add when i can get them out. Also a big thanks to Ben (Hinksey) for advice on useing AK.

And a very big thanks to Eric for running a great GB.

Hi, Bish, what a way t finish off the year, she looks brilliant, as far as I know she is a bergepanther the turret is bolted in place and cannot move.
Anyhoo congrats on an excellent project.

Merry X-Mas,

Terry.

Thanks Terry. Yes, these were originally Begepantehrs. They were field converted from the very first Panther's, the early D's. They were then field converted again to what we see and used as command tanks. Thats my understanding of it anyway.

And the same to you.

My pleasure Bish. It's also the rest of the groups pleasure to have seen your WIP. I'm sure we all learned something.

Very effective camo and the tracks and exhaust are pleasingly weathered.

Hi Bish, I believe your right, I think one of the very few photos of this vehicle shows a star ariel, in saying that I could be wrong .

Terry, that interesting because i haven't seen that. These is one of the images i found.

The other shows the vehcile on the back of a rail car, but i can't load it. If you have seen a third, i will have to see if i can find it. This was only a command vehcile in a recovery platoon, so it may or may not have had a star antenna, but would certainly look better with one.

Thanks again Eric. And will deffinatly be keeping an eye on the GB. Just wish i had the time to fit in another.

Ye, i have seen the rail car ones. There are two, one with a Tiger (P) infront of the Panther and then a close up of the Panther. Apart from the one i posted, that seems to be the only other photo of these vehicles.
