Yesterdays Show - Dragons new StuG III Ausf. G Late with Waffle Zim (6633) & other stuff:
Posted by Hinksy on Monday, March 25, 2013 10:56 AM

Hi guys,

I attended one of the biggest one-day annual shows in the UK yesterday. We go every year and it didn't dissapoint. It seemed all the traders made it but not the public so it was fairly quiet giving me a chance to search for bargains.

I'd intended to buy the new Dragon 6633 StuG kit and probably a Nashorn too, not to mention a good few AK products!

On arrival I saw the StuG kit for £40 - AND BOUGHT IT! (Phil on the stand had it marked up at £45 but he was one of the guys I see at my club occasionally so he let me off a fiver).  As it turns out that trader had only bought one with him, the one I had, and NONE of the other traders had that kit. So many people asked me which stall I got it from! LOL!

It's a perfect looking kit, Magic Tracks, a nice PE rear deck rack, a great fighting compartment with radios etc and a great gun assembly! Metal Shurzen if you want them - everthing.

The best thing was the Zim, not too regular and very deep and crisp! I bought a replacement RB barrel for a fiver but I'm going with the Magics on this one and my now current wip Panzer IV - Friuls are getting stupidly expesive. Armour Models who I get my Friuls from were there selling them for the usual £26, another stand had them on sale for £40 a box! Surprise

Here's a few photos of the kit and all the other stuff I bought!

Some other stuff I got - Migs excellent looking 'MUD' in rough and smooth textures. I haven't tried it yet but it looks EXACTLY like Chocolate Mousse! I have seen it on models and it look amazing. Also some 1.5mm mini masking tape, mainly for Periscope lens masking, Mr. Hobby Metal Primer, Mig Glass Wash for these Jeeps I'm planning on building, a smaller A5 sized cutting mat, another RB barrel for my next wip - Panzer IV., some varied light-to-rough sanding sticks (better than Emery Board imo) and some Scarlet Red Model Air:

I've wanted this wooden handled razor saw for ages - it comes with several saw blades right down to 0.25mm thickness. This will really help me!

Great Wall Hobby's excellent German Jerry can set:

This was only £3 - Achtung Panzer by Guderian and Swastika Flag kits with scale thickness cotton of the right colour. They supply 5 Swastikas on paper and a load of thin Maroon cotton but I'll photocopy the Swastikas and should get about ten in total - only £1 for the set. Stick the cut-out swastika on the cotton with UHU type glue and then just airbrush with matt varnish to stop the cotton comong apart. PVA glue and water mix to be used when applying to vehicle to set the 'flag' hard. The guy selling them was on a display stand and was selling them - he'd used them on a few builds of his and they looked very good Toast

A nice haul! I had wanted to get the Dragon Nashorn too but after looking at it I decided to wait as it's a monster kit that I will need a fair bit of time on - maybe next year!

Oddly enough not ONE stand has AK products on sale? I had a list of their stuff that I wanted too No

Cheers guys,

Ben Toast

Nice haul Ben. What company did those swastika's come from, they look pretty decent.

I'm sure you will love the book. I read it years ago and i think its about due for a re read. Though not armour related, Rommel's Infantry Attacks is also worth a look.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Nice haul you got there. That Dragon kit  looks impressive and should be a pleasure to build. The razor saw  peaked my interest, only $12.99 online so I might be ordering one  myself.

Enjoy..

Hi guys,

That lot came to about £100. I'd been saving for this show for a while and had £150 to take with me - I'd have spent the lot had I bought the Nashorn but I thought with what I have planned for this year I'd never get near it to start on it and as it's not going anywhere it could make a nice Birthday or Christmas present Wink Looked a bit tricky to me but I won't go anywhere in this world if I don't challenge myself - the Aluminium Nashorn kit barrel was amazing - the kit itself would certainly be a monster!

The Mig 'MUD' is excellent. I added some fine and rough to my old test bed Hetzer and when dry it looked amazing! Highly recommended!

Bish - the flags were not being sold by a trade stand but by a guy on a display stand. You get a load of very thin Maroon cotton fabric, 5 paper Swastikas that you cut out to make a perfect circle, position the Swastika on the cotton and stick using UHU glue or similar, spray with matt varnish to stop the threads coming apart then soak in a PVA/Water mix and drape where required. it all came in an envelope for £1 so I thought I'd at least give it a try. There's enough cotton to do 15 flags so I'll photocopy them a few times too.

No AK stuff which was a real bummer though - I don't understand why there was not one AK item on sale in the whole hall? No

Going to model shows is a hazard to your pocketbook....but oh, so much fun!!

That's a great load of good stuff you purchased, Ben! Does the MIG "Mud" come with a setting agent, or do they recommend an acrylic resin or something else to mix with it. Perhaps thats only something needed with a "wet" or "fresh mud" look?

Cheers, Fred

Hi Fred,

It looks like yummy Chocolate Mousse in the pot!

I took my old Hetzer which I use a general test-bed for everything new and I brushed and stippled on some of the rough texture stuff on one side and the fine texture on the other side and it dried to an amazing effect. No additive needed but pigments could be added to alter the colour or Future/Klear added to give it a wet look.

They do other Muds too but this was a lighter one. The others were very dark in colour.
