how interchangible are AM shells
Posted by modeler#1 on Thursday, May 2, 2013 11:23 AM

I am looking into getting a 1/35 model that has a 8.8 cm pak 43. I want to include some AM rounds and shells, would a set of 7.5cm Pak 40 shells play the part? I am a little concerned about them looking a little  small.

Depends on what you are going for; total accuracy or just a representative display of ammo shells.

As Rob says, it would depend how accurate you want to be. To the eye, I would guess the size might not be that different, at least in diameter. The 88 shells might be a bit longer. If your happy to use them knowing that are not 100% then I would say go ahead.

If you do want to be 100%, both Tamiya and AFV Club do some brass L71 ammo.

have a gun crew made up of short people. just kidding. if they are regular looking shells probably wouldn't be a problem. in diameter in scale the difference is .4mm.

I think you would have to be a serious rivet counter to spot that.

Pak 75mm shells have no "shoulder" as an 8.8cm shell.  Don't sell yourself short.  These AM kits are cheap and easily available.  8.8cm Pak 43 ammo would look very different than 75mm Pak ammo

The Pak43 used the same ammo as the King Tiger which were longer than the other 88mm ammo.

thanks for all the responses!

this is the kit I am thinking of using

it probably comes with plastic ammo but I would prefer to spruce it up a bit.
