Very impressive for your first try. Better than my first model. The mud looks really good.

Finalle made it!

I think it looks very nice to be my first one, and I have learned a lot from this model, I found my weaknesses and were to improve. Dont ask for the figures, Im still struggling with them.

Here are the results:

I think the improvised "camouflage" gives a touch of green in all that grey and brings some life to the model.

 It's a muddy tank.

Some splashes of mud on one side. Not everything should be perfectly symmetrical I guess.

Greasy, rusty and oily.

Uppps, someone forgot a bucket with a rag in the front, before battle....

I liked it so much, next picture is currently my desktop background.

I hope you liked it.

Im currently cleaning tools, wiping dust, airbrush, for my next model...I will also give myself a couple days of vacation, next model will be challenging a lot of PE and Im still deciding wether it to be a winter cammo, or extreme chipping...hmmmmm... tough one.

I hope I can build a clean, neat perfect tank someday....

Thanks for the tip!!,

I wil try to ge them in the Internet. You know, in Mexico in general it is very hard to get materials, tools. Im even on a smaller city, so its basically impossible to get, other than acrylics and glue.

Saludos!

Looks pretty good from here---good paint for a first time airbrusher! You'll find that Tamiya paints are pretty much trouble-free for airbrushing as long as you thin them properly.

For a god flesh tone on figures, go out and get some good professional artist's acrylics from a craft store like AC Moore's. I use Grumbacher's. Get some white and some raw sienna. and add a small dot of the Raw Sienna into the white for a really nice flesh tone. You can add shadows with more RS.

Hi sir,

Thanks, great info. I did not realize the tracks actually had an orientation..duuh.....

I see what you mean by the see through, also did not realize on that, what do do you suggest, just add some putty? or use window maker with glue?

Looks like she's coming along nicely. Watch the orientation of the tracks -  the right side is correct but the left appears to be reversed.

If I had seen this earlier, I would also have suggested to block in the cupola viewports from the inside to prevent the "see-through" effect.

Hi, me again, this hobby is addicting. Toast

OK, so postshaded the tank, started to add some weathering, some rusting, some dry brushing, etc..

Im almost done, I will only add a small detail (a nice surprise) which I think is nice, Im experimenting on a new technique, I will let you know once I have completed it. First, need to see how it comes out

Let me know, what you think.

My scenery for my mode is: "this tank came out of the factory just a month ago, it has not seen a lot of action, although crossing some mudy and dusty terrain, and some minor rainfalls...." I think is important to give a story to the model, where has it been, how long it was used, etc..

BTW I hardly can paint the figures I need help, they look like zombies!!!...arghhhh...Angry I think I need to vary some colors on the flesh, a good lamp with augmentation glass. Any recommended link, instructions on how to do it.??

I just need to weathered  the other side....and add my personal detail, my signature.

Also a GOOD digital camera, this iPhone sucks, photos do not reflect the actual good looking my model is...Embarrassed

My advice is not to use white to introduce a faded color but instead use some light gray. And it's definitely easier to lighten a darker color than it is to darken a lighter color. Try for a roughly 20% light gray to 80% dark gray mix and you should have a nice highlighting/fading combination to work from. HTH! Beer

Hi friends,

I added the second coat of German grey, again no problems, everything went smooth.

added the decals, and im starting to weather the tracks.

I willl weather the tank slightly.

I have a question, what is better, use the german grey color and add a bit of white and thin OR use white, add a bit of grey and thin?

Im trying to do some light contrtrast, to make it look like the upper part color has started to fade from being under the sun.

Here are some pics of the progress:

Hi,

What is the light grey material you applied to the tank in the 3rd picture? Thanks.

I used sewing string for the rope

the tie downs on the turret were perfectly shaped. I wrapped the string around it  and put on a dab of superglue on the string. the string had to have a lot of tension though to make it look like it was actually holding the track in place.

Thanks for the tip! I will do some of that in my next model. A IS-3, I already bought two sets of PE. It should come out nice.

looking nice. i have a pair in my stash. some comments:

1. for airbruushing get some disposable latex gloves for your hands when airbrushing. also get some cotton gloves for handling the model after painting.

2. as mentioned go easy on the fenser damage. speaking from experience a rear bumper could be caved in from backing into a tree. look at a car bumper after the car backed into a pole. these fender extensions also hinged up.

Hi again me,

I finally armed myself with valor and did my first airbrushing in my life.

Before I even touched the airbrush, I read a lot of information, saw tons of videos on how to do it. Specilly the "how to" videos from this site on how thin the paint had to be.

I used Tamiy acrylics and used Tamiya thinner.

I think it went perfect!!!. I did not had any problems, paint buildup, choked nozzle,, nothing, I most have pleased the gods of airbrushing in some way.

I only need to work more on the preparation, specially putting everything on toothpicks BEFORE painting, my thumb ended like it was crushed under a truck... all black.

All in al, it was a great experience, now I see how everything blends in!, defects, dents, everyting falls in place. My next step will be to do some light chipping, paitnting it in German grey, some minor rust and pigments. Lets say it was a one month used tank.

Please let me know what do you think.

BTW I need to get myself a professional digital camera....

Be careful with the damage to the fenders. Remember, anything that would rip off a corner would likely tear the fender from its mounts first.  Consider the underlying object and how it would react to wear/tear/damage.  Keep up the good work

Tamiya 1/35 PanzerKampfwagen IV AusfD FINISHED!!!
Posted by garzonh on Monday, May 20, 2013 5:20 PM

HI!

I have finally built the AusfD from Tamiya. It is an old model I had stocked for almost 6 years.

Since I just started going back to the modeling hobby, Im doing all sort of experimentations.Using MrSurfacer, using the dremell tool to create some damage to front and back fenders.

Hopefully I can start my first airbrusing by next week, it has been very difficult to find Acrylic XF1 for the primer. Im also thinking of  painting it german grey and just add some black wash, rusted pigments and some dirt and mud.

I think the major problem I will have is painting realistic faces for the figures, thats my major issue now.

I will keep updating.

Saludos from your Mex buddy.
