Robert DuBrock Smith

June 15, 1972 - June 11, 2013

Thank you - Thank you all so very much for your kind and heartfelt comments about Rob.

His passing was so unexpected and he was taken away from us at the age of 40.

He was due to retire from the Military in March 2014 after 20 years combined in both the USMC & USCG. He was given a Full Military Honor funeral, which he so rightly deserved.

Rob was a wonderful husband and dad, your dedication to his honor and memory are so very touching and will continue to give both Kimberly and myself great comfort.

I have decided to donate all of Rob's builds to a museum which is in the works on Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC, along with his huge collection of WWII memorabilia, as I feel it is something that is well worth being shared with others.

Respectfully

Claire Smith

Ah, man, that sucks. WAAAY to young for a good man to go. We will remember him here, and miss his contributions to this site and to our community.

To me, "Eternal Life" means the continuing of someone that endures because of the memories, lessons, examples and legacy that they leave behind to speak for them, and OF them. In that resepct, Rob "Panzerwaffe" will live on in this community -- and I'm sure in your hearts and lives as well. Smile

Sincerest condolences for your loss...

My deepest condolences Claire. I knew him from a couple of Group Builds that I hosted. He was nice enough to send me a part that I happened to be missing. I greatly respected his friendship in the forums, along with his great skill as a builder. A great loss to the community for sure.

Truly sorry for your loss of Rob, Claire. I did not know him personally, but he was a respected member of this group-  40 is much too young to go.  My prayers are with you and your family.

That is sad news. I didn't know him very well but on looking him up I remember now the giant locomotive. That was some beautiful work, truly a skilled modeler and the community is much diminished with his passing.

Rest in Peace sir

Indeed, this is sad news.  Greatly admired, both his builds and as a person.  Heartfelt prayer go out to his family and friends.

Jack

Wow- very sad news. I didn't know Rob well but was following his BR-52 build and had posted a couple comments. Not only was he an exceptional builder but he seemed a really nice guy. I'm kinda dumbstruck....

RIP Rob

I got a message from Rob Smith's, aka PANZERWAFFE, that he passed on July 11th.

A little confused. You got a message from a dead forum member? Tongue Tied

I have posted in the armor section for a long, longtime.  I wish I was here to post details of some armor piece I am working on but sadly... no.

I got a message from Rob Smith's, aka PANZERWAFFE, that he passed on July 11th.  I don’t have any details but will post as I get them.  I just went back and looked at the progress he had made on his Br 52.  A truly outstanding piece of work.  The modeling world has lost someone wit a real special talent.
