WWII Cargo Tie Down Straps?

When I served, the US Army used Cotton or Nylon webbing tie down straps for vehicle stowage. The straps came in various sizes for differnt items. I am pretty sure that the cotton webbing ones are the same ones or very similar to the ones used in WWII. What did other countries use for that purpose? Similar webbing straps? leather? rope? I know that crews will use whatever they can get their greasy hands on (we did- 550 cord, seat belts, etc.), but was the "official" issue tie down straps used by each of the major players: British Empire, Germany, Soviet Union, Japan, Italy, France?
