There is some strong opinion that they used a gray primer on certain parts, or at least a grayish undercoating on some parts, late in the war. There is a whole thread on it somewhere on one of these other forums, complete with compelling photographic evidence. It was late in the war, and seemed to be mostly on Panthers and Jagdpanthers, but I"m not sure what the consensus was?

Tiger primer question?
Posted by ww2psycho on Friday, September 27, 2013 12:52 PM

I actually have time to work on models, unfortunately because I broke a bone in my foot so I'm out of work. I want to paint my Tiger I Initial Production for the 1943 GB. Reading the article in October 2013 Issue on painting German camo, he uses Model Master rust for primer to closely match the red oxide primer on German tanks. Where all German vehicles painting in this red primer? Was there a time frame when this wasn't used?
