Cool pic!! That's definitely something I've never seen before!
Sorry about the camo mistake Gino! I'll look more closely next time!

Hi Earnest. Yes, the base plate is a big, heavy, one-piece cast affair to handle the recoil impact of the gun. It is quite robust. Here they are being built.
By the way, the duffle bags are not camo, just covered in dust. Thanks for checking in on it.

After looking at it again right after posting my response, I thought it might be some type of base for the mortar, but it just looks strange! Is it a molded one piece base?
That's the base plate; it is used when the mortar is ground mounted.
Very interesting Gino! LIke Karl said, its nice to see different armored vehicles especially those we don't usually see! Question: What is that large item mounted to the left side of the vehicle, just behind the four large camo duffle bags? At first I thought it was some type of mask, but after looking at it closely I'm stumped!
I hear you Rob. I hate when people throw live round around and have gear just stuck to the sides of vehicles with no apparent attachment points or straps.
HeavyArty Kevin, honored to be on your site. Thanks for posting it. Rob, thanks, as you know, those of us who have "been there, done that" get the stowage piece.

Thanks for checking in Mike. I'm sure yours will be even better.
Looks fantastic. As Rob states, it helps you have seen the 1 to 1 stowage. Looks very realistic. That is always the biggest problem most modelers have...stowage in space! Need to keep this on my list...my 120 is waiting for me. Even caught the eye of the big cheese cutter Kevin....Mr Mortar!! LOL
Another work of art!!

It looks great Gino. One of the positives about your kits is logical stowage. Too often I see builders piling on the stuff in the most insane places.
Gino... thanks. Included your latest with your two previous contributions. www.mortarsinminiature.com/guest_files.htm

Thanks Gamera and Doog. It was a fun build and I like how it came out...so did the buyer.
Cool! Yes, it's always great to see some more modern hardware!

Wow, THAT'S neat, Gino! A nice departure from the "normal stuff" here!
Thanks guys, I'm glad everyone likes it.
The hull is from the Academy M113A2, which is the same as their A3 kit, but you add more stuff to it. The interior, including the mortar comes from the MR Modelbua conversion set. You replace most of the interior with it. The original M106 had a 4.2" or 107mm mortar. Trumpeter's USMC Mortar Team has an 82mm mortar.
Hi Kevin. Sure you can lift a pic. Post as many as you like, happy to contribute.
Mikeym_us I believe he did say it was a One Deuce Zero Mike Mike. If I do remember the mortar in the M106 kit was either a 88 or a 120. Wish RedLeg posted pics of the interior to show it off it is a shame to leave it all covered.

Yes, I am aware that it is a 120mm, and not a 4.2". I am curious where and how the mortar itself was done.

Gino... Nice!! Requesting permission to swipe and post one of your images?
stikpusher Nicely done Mortar Maggots. ;-) What did you do for the mortar? It is obviously not the old Four Deuce.

Never got to see these guys up close when I was in.
I love modern stuff especially the slightly out of the ordinary. Very cool. Superb job.
So pretty much all you did was use the interior and the roof from the M106 and put it on the M113A2 hull with the various updates to the interior. The mortar looks like it is the Mortar from the Trumpeter US Marines mortar team set. And is there a rifle rack in the interior for the M16's?
BTW are you sure that isn't the A3 hull and not the A2?
Thanks. The tracks are the Academy vinyl ones. I shortened them by one link to tighten them up, then super glued them down onto the middle three road wheels.
Sweet!
If I may ask: whose tracks did you use?
Apprentice rivet counter.
I have just finished a commission build for the TC of HQ55, TF 1-64AR, 3 ID during the initial invasion of Iraq in March '03. I used the MR Modelbau M1064A3 conversion set with an Academy M113A2 hull, Tamiya M106A1 Mortar carrier, scratch stowage basket, and a lot of smaller changes and updates. It is based on pics of his actual vehicle.
