Thank you very much!

Yes, in fact I did added the sooth pigments but then went back and added more rust covering the sooth. I will use this vehicle for a diorama so it will be covered in a lot of debris, and other stuff thrown over it, plus add a little bit of dust.

Also will remove both wheels and just leave it on the suspension arms holded by wood blocks.

Again, thank you for stopping by and commenting on my model.

Have a great day!

Enjoying this build log.  The rust effects look top notch.  The only comment I have is on the hood; in addition to the great rust effects wouldn't the fire leave alot of black soot around the opening in the hood?

Hahahah....Big Smile told you I went crazy streaking..

Yes, I also think some dust will re-inforce the idea of abandonment, although Im not good at adding/using dusting effects, that will come later when I build my Merkava.

So for now, I will leave it as is, since it was a good rusting experiment.

Thank  you very much for your comments and keep track of this built.

Wish you the best.Yes

That genuinely looks really good! THe colors are well-represented and I sincerely think that the weathering looks top-notch!

Thank you very much, coming from an expert like you, it truly motivates me to keep improving and exceed myself.

Yes, my attempt was to make it look as if the tire burned half through it, I might just take out the whole thing, just completely blown away.

I hope that filling the back part of SDKFZ 251 will even re-inforce the idea of an abandoned vehicle used as a trash can. Crying

Again, thank you for invaluable advice (free Big Smile ).

Have a great week! your friend Hugo

Still though..... in reality,http://www.wm3blackboard.com/bb2-0/Smileys/smileystash/cheesy.gif this project is just my twisted kind of interest.

Hugo,

That genuinely looks really good! THe colors are well-represented and I sincerely think that the weathering looks top-notch!

The only thing that really bugs me is that front tire. If that got blown apart like that, there would have been more damage to the fender area. Yet if it is supposed to represent burned rubber, the fender above it would be rusted from heat damage as well.

My philosophy in presenting a diorama is that if you have to "explain" a particular detail, you've somewhat failed in your presentation. While you may indeed have seen a photo of that particular kind of damage, it is awfully hard to model that convincingly to where someone is not going to say "What's up with that tire"? I hope it doesn't sound condescending, and I certainly DON'T mean it that way, but I always try to think that my "audience" is not too smart--do you know what I mean? Make things easy to understand and "get" what your intention is to show.

I hate to say it, but I would rather see the rubber part of the wheel taken off completely, and just the rim remaining. You could probably remove it very easily from the model, trim it down, repaint it, and place it back on the model if you tried? But that's just my opinion. Smile

Hey, finally sometime to finish this study on "rust, wear and abandoment" using oils. Whistling

Besides that orangish, red colors from the rusting, I also wanted to display the greenish color metal gets after sometime outside and also some white from doves poo... Embarrassed

I put on the 5th layer of oils for the streaks and wear. I think I have mastered  the color of rust using oils, applying them sucessfully...not so sure...but hey...my first kit with oils looks good..at least I like it. Specially for my diorama, in order to make it look more abandoned I will fill the interior with junk like empty rusting barrels, damaged fuel cans and any other garbage that comes across....

Let me know what you think.... Embarrassed...

Lets say I used several "technics"

The hood I carved out one of the sides with a knife until it was separated then I used some pliers to bend it, by accident it gave it that "melting look".

The colors are a set of filters from true earth, i did some experiments on spare parts which came out better than this...

I actually melted the tire and with heat also bended the side covers and made a hole in it with a hot knife.

Thanks for your comments and interest!

Good work ! Nice looking Sdkfz 251 btw (if you can say "nice" to a damaged and burned vehicle Stick out tongue).

How did you managed your burned and cooked off effect ? Did you actually melt the plastic ?

Got a chance this past week end to look a bit more at the pics and was really impressed with the application of damage and wear. Plus, with all the positive advice and ideas from folks it'll only get better. Great job!

Thank you for your comments, and yes, with so much advice from everybody it can only get better!

Thank you very much!

I have not finished, yesterday I just added my 4th layer of oils and varnish...I want to add another 4 layers of oil filters and streaks, weathering before calling it a "finished".

I for one think it's looking pretty awesome. Is this really only your 5th  build? I'm on something like my 50th and haven't even attempted something like this. Keep up the nice work...

OK, will do!!

Thanks.

I just got back from vacation to work and definitely my good "streaking" pace will slow down....

So, hopefully will have some progress during weekend.

What kind of streaks? would you recommend.

Seriously, well ..........
not the nudehttp://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/mooning/mooning-girl.gif type or germans http://dorkychickinlipstick.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/streaker-cartoon-streaking-funny-nude-naked.gif?w=43http://dorkychickinlipstick.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/streaker-cartoon-streaking-funny-nude-naked.gif?w=43http://dorkychickinlipstick.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/streaker-cartoon-streaking-funny-nude-naked.gif?w=43running for cover, but I believe you get my meaning.....  since it's a deserted wreck you could use the whole gamut of rainmarks, paint discoloration and of course the classic rust streaks seeping out of those paint chips.

Well, I think you've done a tremendous job, garzonh. I certainly don't see anything wrong with it. I doubt I'll be trying anything like this when I build mine. I wouldn't know where to start to build a burned out tank.

I really thank your supportive comments and appreciation.

I must say, it comes to trying to experiment. Indeed I chose this cheap model to try this out. This one I bought it for $18USD, so I experiemented with the burned look painting and also I will do more "old & abandoned" oil painting to make it look abandoned for months.

Im still trying to do so much things new and comfortabel, my opinion is to always build something challenging. So, my next challenge will be a diorama. definitely not easy at all.

On my "to do" list I have: winter cammo, lighlty weared and dusty for my Merkava kit,

have a great day!Yes

I would not have bent and warped the road wheels.  Anything dramatic enough to bend a wheel would have shorn it off and sent if flying.  I'd remove those if I were you.

Good observation, I will not include them on the diorama.

Thanks for your advice.

Hug, this model has "vision"! And it looks pretty convincing, for the most part. My opinion is that what is "accurate" or not in cases like this can be entirely subjective, as who can predict the effects of a blast? I think you've captured the right "look" and I would say keep going with it, as you're modeling "Art" for Art's sake!

My very friend

I cannot appreciate your support and on going entusiasm... Yes

Keeps me trying to improve myself, you can provide good criticism without being too harsh.

Hopefully, one day I will build better models, this is just my 5th attempt.

Now, don't forget the streaking. This http://dorkychickinlipstick.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/streaker-cartoon-streaking-funny-nude-naked.gif?w=43 is the perfect candidate.
