Murphy's law, sometimes do the trick.
Hi there!
It's probably one of murphy's law that when you try several methods and none of them work, the least expected (and the last one) will!!!
I've just finished my IS-2 stalin UZTM, made by "Zvezda". It's not up to the standards of the Dragon kit, but about half the price. I opted to build it out of the box because I wanted somthing that I could work on my airbrush skills. However I did try to fix the front glacis.
I followed coockie sewell (hope I wrote his name right...) article in the last issue of FSM. I drilled the hull and stuck four pieces of metal rod 0.5mm diameter. construction and painting went on untill the time to use the simplefied rubber tracks.
First try: I've built zvezda's Su-100 a few years back and knew what to expect. I hoped that the metal rods would "force" the track to sag. Well that didnt happen exactley like I wanted.
Oh.. well, lets try somthing else.
Second try : I tried to use CA and glue the track to return rollers while "wedging" the track with the upper track guard using pieces of eraser cut to size . CA DID'NT WORK
It just broke apart.
Ok, no frustration here just try somthing else.
Third Try: OK this time I'll use rubber glue instead of CA, I kept the eraser "spacers" , let everything dry for an hour or so, and all I got is just a sticky crap between evrything.
Know I'm pissed off!
FourthTry: all kind of glues went in!NOTHING! " just glue allready! what's your problem crappie rubber tracks! I swear I'm not getting those Modelkasten's! I will not pay three times more then the tank itself!"
Anger terned into frostration...
and sadness
Fifth try and the last one. after being humilated
by the tracks. I saw the light. "TRACKS this is your ARMAGEDON'S DAY, Now I'll show you!" I grabbed the Hair drier (Thank's to my girlfriends idea, now I have long hair
) I just let it blast and I knew it will be dangerose but I did'nt care... confusion[:0]
Tension began, will I make it
or burn it
?!?!?! I tried to keep the anger within and be carefull, and then... I stopped!
Glue didnt work, but heat kept the tracks in place... "YES! I made it"
the track sits and sags perfectly!
All it took was a stroke of luck! (and heated air).
Hope you'll try it yourselves and you would'nt have to go all the way long. enjoy!
