Quick little PzIII J, maybe?
Posted by Jester75 on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 7:53 PM

Well this is what I have been working on since the halftrack, Dragons very nice PzIII J. I was pretty pleased with how the winter scheme turned out so I thought I would do another! I didnt take hardly any WIP photos as what you see in the pics was basically built in 2 sittings over the period of 2 days. Lots of little pieces and nibs to cut off of almost every piece but it really does fall together nicely!! Obviously I have left a lot off in these pics. Some was left off for individual painting like the tools and such and others were left off to fit the Magic Tracks like the outer road wheels and return rollers.

The following pictures are posted as examples for discussion purposes only. Plate of the vehicle I am attempting to replicate.

And a few of the actual vehicle itself which is always a treat!!

And this is where I am with the kit. Basically ready for primer and paint.

I will have to say to anyone that feels intimidated by Magic Tracks, please dont!! Just follow thedoogs toot here on the forums and it will be a breeze!! I think I assembled and installed both sets in a little over 1 quarter of the Denver vs. San Diego game (go Denver btw!!).

Not sure yet how I am going to tackle the camo pattern as its very interestingly applied!! Any thoughts on how you guys would go about it? Hoping to get this one knocked out of the way and get started on Dragons Bison II for tigermans Afrika GB.

Really nice build so far.

Might take some more research, but I'm not totally sure the added period photos are of camou applied with paint.   Possibly chalk scribbles - I'm thinking the crew took pieces of limestone (from a dwelling reduced to rubble?) and just went to town with their winter artwork.

If that is the case,  try a test with a blunt white pencil crayon, or even bits of gyprock , on the bottom or some scrap piece.  The surface should be a flat finish to better accept these mediums.

regards,

Jack

Looks very cool, Eric! Thanks for the recommendation on m tutorial, and I"m glad to hear that it helped you out!

I always thought that the Pz III was like, your stereotypical example of a cute little tank. :)

I'm old school and very lazy; I love the look of unpainted, well constructed models. I build a lot of kits but only drag out the airbrush a few times a year. So I end up with a bunch of unpainted kits waiting for the final finishes.

@tigerman-I have no doubt that yours will easily be as good and probably better! Thanks Eric!!

@jgeratic-thanks for the tips Jack, that does make sense them making use of what was on hand.

@thedoog- Thanks Karl! I have to say, I originally started a set of MK's for this build and I honestly believe that I finished both sets of Magic Tracks in the time it took me to remove all the pins, horns, and tracks for the MK set from the sprues!

@ Rob-I agree, I too love the look of a bare kit before paint especially when they are multimedia with PE and resin and plastic with some scratchbuilding. Seems to give a better sense of what went into a build.

Thanks Bill, I hope I can do it justice! By the way, your Bison build log has been an invaluable help at the moment! I really appreciate the time to you take to document your builds and then post it all on your website!!
