Yeah, occasionally this comes up here on the forum.

You probably saw those striped aiming posts on a self-propelled artillery subject.....    

 A lot of people make that mistake when depicting armor subjects.

I usually paint them a khaki brown color but I have seen them on other people's builds painted with the white & red so I decided to paint them that way.  Thank you for pointing that out I can change it, its not a big fix.

  Hey, just trying to help out here.

     I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this....

            ......'cause it's no big secret.

                      BUT ........

 Those red and white poles are for cleaning the main gun (they screw together to extend long enough to clean the barrel) and should be the tank base color or a natural wood finish.

 There's some speculation as to the accurate finish but the gun cleaning rods aren't red and white.

  You have them painted as ranging poles which

                   are used by artillery units.

 Actually the proper name is Aiming Posts. Aiming posts are used as a reference point once a weapon is "laid" or surveyed onto the azimuth of fire.
 The aiming posts are painted with red and white stripes that are usually about 6"inches wide. In 1/35 scale that's about 0.18 inches.

Yeah the tracks are nice, but I don't recommend them, they have too many parts (3 connecting pins 1 connecting link and the main link)  and its tricky to be sure the wire goes through them all without going through the other side.  I'd recommend the later style with the single track link and connecting link.  I'm sold on the Mr. Color line they're great for small detail painting and the bottles will last a long time too.

Great looking KT Tankster!

I started out with a wash of Humbrol Tank Brown (Red Brown) then I did alot of drybrushing with lightened MM Panzer Dark Yellow and paint chipping was done with Vallejo German Grey.  The tracks & wheels were dirtied up with Vallejo Pigments and I gave the metal tow cables and engine deck screens a wash with Vallejo rust-colored pigments to give them a rusty, dingy look.  The track guide teeth and drive sprocket teeth were dry brushed with MM Steel and the tracks as well.  I dabbed on the Vallejo Pigments on the wheels and tracks and ground them in as best I could.  Then I sprayed Vallejo Matt Varnish at a low PSI to hold them in place.  I dabbled them on the engine deck to simulate dirt and I applied pin washes along the details.  The pin wash was dabbed on the engine deck to simulate spilled fuel/oil and streaked down the sides of the vehicle.  

That's some really great work!

Outstanding looking model so far.--what about markings though? Don't forget the decals!

I'm gonna weather it but my weathering is somewhat constrained since the kit has molded on Zimm.  I wouldn't make much sense to weather the metal surfaces heavily and not simulate chipped off Zimmerit since it did have a weak binder.  So I"m thinking just some washes on the top of the turret, chipped paint, drybrushing and dirty up the running gear and thats about it.  Even doing things like rust/grime streaks on the sides I reallty can't do since its not a flat surface and the Zimm has a tendancy to hide it.

Here's the kitty with the finished paint, all thats left is attaching the tracks and painting the tools and weathering.  I especially love how the camo turned out.  It was such a good job It was starting to blend in to the surroundings on my workbench lol.  I gave it a light going over with Gunze RLM 81 to tone down the paint job and that worked very well, although its hard to tell from the photos.

Yeah thats a tricky area bc its a curved surface but nothing my Badger Krome can't handle :)  I'm completely sold on the Mr. Color line.   They thin out so well and there's next to no needle clog like with other acrylics and their RLM colors are the most accurate from what I've researched.  I'm gonna stick with them from now on and whittle down my stocks of over brands.

I have to give this Yellow/Gray mix a try...

Its a fairly common mix for late war panzers.  I like it better than dark yellow by itself and it helps me consolidate some bottles to cut down on clutter as well.

Here's the big kitty with its colors on.  I used a 50/50 mix of Tamiya Dark Yellow/Tamiya Sky Grey with a touch of Tamiya Buff for the Dark Yellow basecoat and Gunze Mr. Color Khaki Green for the dark green camo.  Next I'm gonna paint these heavy Fruils and dirty them up :)

The fit is nice, may need just a little bit more bending down on the edges but overall they're good. 

That's nice to hear. I've been itching to build this kit to put next to my Henschel Tiger and I remember the engine grills on that one (not pre-bent) didn't fit at all...
