Syrian Rebel T-62 Mod 74.
Posted by DHSKEVIN on Sunday, March 9, 2014 10:05 AM

Hey all, just finished up this Trumpeter T-62.

Before we begin id just like to say i do armor model's for fun im pretty sure there is inaccuracy's with this build. with that said i wanted to build a Rebel FSA captured T-62 Tank with ERA.

Seeing some photos of the Russian armor in use in the Syrian civil war its safe to say the tanks are pretty beat up and that's the look i wanted to go about creating.

I am creating a semi- Diorama with this tank in a defensive position on a berm. the clay base is still drying so not complete with that part yet but just wanted to share my finished armor model.

i am by no means an expert in modeling, this is the first completed tank I've done in about a year.

My camera skills suck so these are not the greatest pics..
Criticism is always welcome

I think you achieved the goal you set for yourself with a nicely done, hobby-level build. Inaccuracies be damned.

Hi DHSKEVIN,

Welcome to the Forum!

Looking very good from where I am seated!
Wear looks very convincing, beaten up but not overdone.
This comes with link and length tracks right?

You might want to move the track tight to the drive wheel between 12 and 3 a clock.
The spare tracks are missing at the rear engine plate but I am sure you have that covered Big Smile
Is an ERA set missing on the right side of the gun?

Very nice entry!
Thank you for sharing  Big Smile

Very Best Regards
Johan

Yeah the track sperated while placeing the tank on base need to reglue the section, and that section i ran out of ERA brackets? either i lost one or the kit was short one but i have to find something to cover those placement wholes up..

I really like it DHSKEVIN!  Nice work on both the model and the mini-dio!  I don't know squat about the T-62, but the paint job and weathering look spot on!  What really makes it for me is the the shovel in the berm.....simple, yet it conveys a lot to the overall look.   The story it tells me is that they just finished working on the berm and took a break....maybe a dip in the local pool??  LOL!! Yeah, the weathering looks very good. Great job there overall, just a few details the guys pointed out that I wouldn't even have noticed if they hadn't called attention to. The base looks great too.

thanks for the comments.

for the chipping effect i used the "salt technique" for the first time as a test. worked out pretty well. used a base color or Russian OD green and top layers of the Desert sand color and tried to highlight the chips a bit with a rust tone.

i just ordered a MENG IDF Merkava IIID with Mig Ammo IDF color set that'll be my next build. i want to either do a grassy muddy field dio , or a highway in Gaza dio , although i have no idea how to realistically make a "paved highway". anyone go any tutorials? or experience?

Well, I made a road a couple years back with just some plaster painted dark grey. Turned out ok to me anyhow. The tan streaks are where I applied mud coloured paint to a few spare tires and rolled them along it to try to give a muddy tire track look.

Ah, ok, that's a bit more work than what I did!
