There is a set of 3 books by George Nafziger that gives the complete OOB of all German divisions. But the formation of the 12th SS followed the same standard as most other Pz Div of the time. In ragrads to tank, there was 1 Regiment with Battalions each with 4 Companies. The 1st Battalion was equipped with Panther, the 2nd with Pz IV.

German tank numbering followed a pretty simply pattern. 3 number, the 1st was the company within the regiment, 2nd was Platoon within the company and 3rd was tank within the Platoon.

So 324 would be 4th vehicle, 2nd Platoon 3rd Company, and this would be a Panther.

But the colours of turret numbers often varied, it really helps if you can get a pic of any particular vehicle your doing.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Georges Bernage's book "The Panzers and the Battle of Normandy" has detailed orders of battle for HJ. and good photo coverage.  Even pics of officers.  But not full lists of turret nos.  I don't think that exists

12th SS HJ Panzer Division units details

Hi all and greetings from Rome, Italy.

I'm looking for more details about HJ armour units operating in Normandy, 1944.

I own some very good books in english about german SS armour that operated in Normandy but none describes good details of HJ order of battle like how many companies, tanks, exact turret numbers, and so on (panzer IV and V Panther are the favourite).

Some suggestion ? (books, internet site, etc,)

thank you !!!!
