Sorry Terry, I think I may have been unclear. generally, I try and avoid having more than one project running at one time. I just meant that when I am leaving a model to one side to let it dry, that's when I get to work on that models base.

But, if I have a couple of dio's where the base is similar, I may well do a couple together, at least to a certain point. My next two builds are a Marder and the Su 85. Both will be Eastern Front scenes with similar terrain. So when it comes to mixing and colouring the celluclay, I will do the two together.

It depends on the scene, number of figures, size etc, but of the dio's I have done recently, I find they don't add that much extra time to a build. Allowing for the time I put this aside, I reckon this took about 5 weeks. I get a lot of the dio done while I am waiting for paint to dry and things like that. When you start adding buildings and all the things like that, that's when it takes more time.

I have been doing dio's since my early days of modelling and I seem to be lucky in that I get a good feel for the layout. But even though I have a good idea of what I want the finished scene to look like, I allow the dio to evolve as I go along and don't stick rigidly to my original plan. At first, in this one the tank was going to be side on with all 5 crew members. But as it progresses and I can start to lay the actual model on the partially finished base, that's when I start to make the changes, but still sticking to the original idea.

Bish I have several ideas but my time is limited and I just can't find it to work on them. My plan is to complete 3-4 over the winter and less on building? I've been gathering all the parts, just need the time.

Agreed, it should be a visual snapshot.

Thanks terry. getting the story right is often the hardest part of doing a dio, and often its something you need to consider early in the build as you may be to build the model is certain ways to fit the scene. I am glad it comes across in the right way. You can have the best build ever, but if the scene does not make sense, it can ruin it all.

I like it a lot. Well done, and your base and figs are well thought-out.

Enjoyed watching you bring this one to life Bish and the placement on the base along with the pigment weathering did the trick perfectly. Yes

Cool!

We just hope that back rack will be able to hold all that weight!..hahaha

Looks very nice and color looks good, some lightly dusted and used tank.

The diorama puts it in the right spot at the right moment!.

Cool work.

Thanks Karl, from you that means a huge amount. I was in two minds about which direction to face the tank, so I asked my other half, I think she made a good choice. The figures took some tie to work out the best position. Got there in the end.

Now Athens is one place I would love to visit, I will get there one of these days, Athens and Rome.

Oh, now THAT's NICE!  Gorgeous!

I love the setting---reminds me of Athens, where I proposed to Jenn a few years ago!

Everything looks appropriate and nicely finished. The weathering is spot-on. What a great scene---good composition and spacing, yup, everything works!!!

I got this build finished last night and have just got the final pics done. After the last ones, I adding some light chipping. Once all the final bits were added and tied down, it got that light coat of AK dust effects and then some pigments. I like the pigmenst as I can build up the piles of dust that build up in corners and around the road wheels. I used Bills methods of adding pigments, which are new to me, and I loved the effect it leaves, just what I am looking for. Cheers Bill.

Then I just had to finish off the figures. Figures is one area I had really wanted to work on, especially the faces and eyes. So I have been using some new techniques over the last couple of builds and I think I am now where I want to be with my figures, with maybe a little bit more tweaking.

Thanks for sticking with it through the slight delay and for all your comments. As always, comments and suggestions of all kinds are welcome.

I have only started using the AK stuff. I really like the in grained dusty look it leaves that armour has after time in the field. Even after washing down they still have that dusty look. I then use the pigments for the more built up dust and dirt. I'll get some pics up hopefully tomorrow, should have the dust and pigments done by then.

Thanks jibber. Its not the pigments so much as the dust effects. Its an enamel product AK does that gives a dusty look. I will add pigments to the lower areas after that.

Bish its dirty, its grimy, its roughed up and its awesome. I love the attention to detail especially what you've done with the road wheels, recesses and high use areas. I understand the concern over using pigments, but lightly done in the right areas it may not affect it at all. You would hate to lose that nice subtle camo.  She's looking great Bish.

Thanks guys. Bill, as this was used in Tunisia in the winter, I figure it would not be as dusty as Libya in the summer. Looking at pics I was surprised at how green Tunisia is in places, so I think it will work nicely.

I got the rope today, I think its going to work a treat, should be getting the dust on in a day or so and then some pigments.
