Here's the finished StuG III.  Markings are for '201' of Assault Gun Batallion 226 in fighting in Leningrad in the beginning of 1943.

Yeah it really does.  At first I didn't like the white background but after I took some shots with the blue one  I can definitely tell the white is much better and the colors aren't as "polluted" as with the blue.  I think I might stick with either white or a light grey background from now on.  

Man, that makes a world of difference! The white background definitely looks more true-to-color than the blue. Even the tracks look funny against the blue background. You can hardly see the dirt on them.

I'd say go with the white background. It's much more complimentary.

Nice paint. I would suggest lightening your gray base coat color and adding some scale effect lightening to the paint job.  Spray the top panels inside of the panels to make a lighter "cloud" inside. This does a great job of simulating the effects of real light on a small model. It looks great when you tone down the tonal difference with a few light washes and/or filters.

I did.  I sprayed MM Acryl Panzer Dark Grey which is slightly lighter than Gunze German Grey.  I added some spot filters to the surface as well to modulate the color even more. And I"m gonna do back and drybrush it again. 

Just something to think about; I do mine pretty radically, and then tone down the disparity with washes.  It might be your camera or the lighting, but it's not too evident in the pics. Then again, some people think I"m a little nuts in how drastic I make my color delineations...

You have to watch with white-based, solvent-based filters, They will tend to absorb into the darker color after a few days, even more drastically after a few weeks. I noticed this phenomenon with white oil paint that I used to tint figure's faces with--they'd look sunburned in a few weeks because the white oil paint would leach into the base,

Here's what I've done so far today and this is my stopping point. 

A generous application of Mr. Color - 40 - German Grey.  I modulated it a little bit with a mix of GG and Tamiya Sky Grey around the turret ring.  I painted the tired Mr. Color Tire Black and The inside of the wheels Model Master Oxide Red. 

The tracks were primed with flat black then recieved an overspray of Mr. Metal Color Dark Iron the tools were painted with this as well and buffed with a cotton swab.  The wood handles were painted with Vallejo Khaki Brown. 

I gave the entire surface a general drybrushing of Model Master Enamel Gunship Grey. 

Next phase is breaking out the pigments and doing some weathering :D

The markings I'm planning on using are for "white 316" from the 1st SS Panzer Div LAH during the Invasion of Vichi France in 1942.

Its a great aftermarket piece, $20 off Ebay :)  Its a direct fit, only requiring a tiny part of the gun trunnion to be cut off.  All the weld beads are nicely done.  I accidentally cracked it so I gotta go over it with some Surface Primer before painting.

That's a good buy, especially for a CH white box kit.

Yeah they both are, the Stug III is one of their Cyberhobby White Box kits.  I got them both for like $15 each at a model show a few weeks ago.

Great looking builds, are they bother Dragon.

Be nice to see some colour on them.
