M7A2 BFIST, A Co, 1-64 AR, 3 ID, OIF 1

I have completed my contribution for the 3ID Museum build that a group of us are doing.  It is an M7A2 BFIST from 1-9 FA task organized to A Co, 1-64 AR during the first Thunder Run into Baghdad on 05 April '03.

This is the actual vehicle.  It was hit on the left rear stowage basket by an RPG that set the gear on fire.

Here is my rendition of it.

Well done!  The blast effects from the RPG hit are especially convincing.

Thanks guys.  It was a fun build and I am pleased with how it ended up.  I took extra time to get the blast effect to look right.  I am glad you think it looks realistic.

Love it. Even the CIP is slightly crooked like the original. Can you give us some info on how you did the blast damage? And what kit(s) did you use?

Thanks Cory.  For the blast damage, I painted it in the overall sand, then drybrushed varying tones of rust, dark brown, black, and a grey-white tone.  After that, I dusted with the same shades with chalk pastels to give it a burned-dusty dry look.  For the model, I used a Tamiya M2A2 ODS as the base, then scratched a bunch of parts and added resin parts from the Legend M2A3 update set that were present on M7A2s as well. I added the anti-slip using Rustoleum spray on texture paint.  You can see what I added in the in-progress shots.

wow, good questions, cwalker3. This opened up a whole can of worms Smile

Thanks for posting the "under the paint" shots. That's some real scale accuracy building that I can learn from

Wow, that's a lot of added detail there Gino, fantastic job! I've yet to try to model something right out of a photo but that's just perfect man.

And yeah the blast and scorching look terrific. I tried doing a Panzer IV hit by a bazooka years ago and well it kinda.. um... sucked...

Hello Gino!

I like your model a lot, especially making it so close to an actual vehicle! I also find the in progress photos very interesting. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your next models!

Wow, Gino, you got that right! The blast damage rocks, man!!! Love it!

I'm impressed with the amount of work you did in applying the anti-slip; geez, that's a lot of masking! A great idea though; one I'll definitely use when I need it!

Congrats on getting your model selected as a museum piece! That's a feather in your cap! Beer
