OMG...this has been discussed so many times. I tend to agree with Karl but....Tamiya OD is a bit dark. you can lighten it a bit with a smidgen of Tamiya Yellow Green. If you use Ammo or Vallejo they have a specific color for WWII OD.

As for the VN OD, it is Darker, similar to Tamiya JA Green, also VN OD is semi gloss as opposed to flat.

If you want to read more, check out some of my paint links on the bottom of this page on my web site including Steve Zaloga's article. It may be a bit dated but good

I appreciate the info, doog. I'll look into the hairspray method, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.  I worded my post poorly; I will only be putting one vehicle in the diorama, I'd just like it to be one of those four.

First thing I"ll say is that that's an awful lot of vehicles for a diorama. You should consider cutting it down to two vehicles to prevent "visual overload", a common mistake people make when putting together dioramas. Bigger is not necessarily better-a concise, well-composed diorama is always better than a big, sprawling scene that confuses the viewer as to where to focus.

Color-wise, just about any shade of Olive Drab would work there; preferably you don't want a shade labelled "Vietnam OD" if there is such a thing, but generally you can use something like Tamiya's OD. For WWII, I like to add a smidge of Light Gray into the OD to make it look faded, and also, vary the shade on each different vehicle for variety. Each vehicle would have different weathering and stains, etc, Don't worry too much about uniformity. The slightly different shades will add visual interest and personality to each vehicle.

Whitewash is best done with the hairspray method. Lots of info online here about that, just look it up in the Search section!

ETO paint color help please
Posted by Jedi 5150 on Sunday, September 14, 2014 11:31 PM
Hello all, new guy here. I enjoyed making models growing up and even some as an adult, but it's been a good 15+ years since I made my last ones. I'm interested in getting back into it and I want to start off with a 1/35 armored diorama from the Battle of the Bulge, in the ETO. Ideally I'd like to do an M10 Tank Destroyer, M7 Priest, M8 Greyhound, or M8 HMC. What I could really use some help on is colors. I'll have to get all new paints (I know I used to prefer Model Masters), and I'm not sure which ones would be appropriate for that period and area. I'll also need to learn how to do whitewash, but I can have some fun researching that. Any tips would be appreciated. :)
