I heard rumor that they were going to be releasing a kit of this variant. Has anyone else heard or seen anything about this?

Wouldn't be surprised if they re released the old Italeri-Testors kit. Academy has a history of buying old molds and re-poppin' them.

The "other forum" has a link to a quickie look-see, it's supposed to be a collection of different Academy sprues from the M4A3 "Easy Eight"  and M36 kits. Given the known warts with those kits, it's actually not a bad deal if reasonably priced. All in all, if my desired result was the -B1 and one came my way cheap, I'd jump on it. Academy's VVSS suspension is actually pretty good, and with a little love, you could turn out a pretty fair model.

But why would they in this case? Academy has a very nice M36 Jackson that is basically their own original turret on their pretty nice M10 series hull (kits #1392, 1393, 1395, 1397). They've been doing the swap out with the turrets on this hull, so now they're just swapping out hulls instead.

They also have their own M4A3 from their decent Sherman line.

Slap a decent 76 mm turret on the kit and you could have 'FURY' movie tank.
