Trumperters Scud launcher
Posted by armornut on Friday, December 26, 2014 10:39 AM
I saw that Trumpeter has released a mobile Scud launcher, the kit discription basically shows different paint and decals with some PE. Does anybody know if this is a new tooled kit or a rebox of the old Dragon kit? I had the Dragon a long time ago and it was less than enjoyable. It would be sad to pay such an exorbant price for a dog of a kit.

It's certainly not a reissue of the DML kit.  www.megahobby.com/35scudctrumpeter.aspx

Dragon and Trumpeter have yet to trade molds, and/or rebox products from each other. They are very much in rivalry with one another. Go have a look at the "Mighty Dragon Fan Club" over on Dragon's website to see how Dragon feels about Trumpeter and other model companies in that part of the world. Not to mention that in the past few years that Trumpeter has been tackling Soviet Cold War armor subjects and many of the most recent ones are new tooled, more accurate versions of the kits that Dragon did when they first started in the late 80s.

Yeah, the old Dragon Scud kit was not for the fainthearted. I built one about 20 years ago or so, once I found one on clearance from a local chain hobby store. It took me quite awhile with all those sub assemblies...

Asked the better half if it would be ok to buy the new kit, she said go for it, now i'm waiting on payday WOOHOO. Saw on Meng's site they're gonna pop one as well, it'll be a matter of time before it's available here in the colonies. Thought i saw something about a 1/35th Topol too, hold on to your checkbooks boysthat kit will be a monster.

I went looking for it again myself and couldn't find any info on the TOPOL, probably a good thing i don't think my wallet can take a hit like that. Armorama was the site.

Hey Doog, welcome to the south ( if i read some of your former posts correctly), i have no doubt that the old dragon kit can produce a great model, i've seen some, unfortunately when i tried mine my patience was very short annd experience  even more limited. Why i wentt for the new release??? maybe still have patience issues LOL. Got mine for under a buck and a quarter including shipping from scalehobbyist. Really would love to see ya wrk your magic on that dragon kit though. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Thanks, armornut---yep, I"m down in Charlotte now; built a house with my fiance!

I will get around to that SCUD launcher--got a heck of a cool photo of an Iranian one in wicked-cool camo from Newsweek a decade or more ago.  Should make a heck of a model!
