I must be improving my kit skills
Posted by CarnivourousDonut on Monday, March 9, 2015 1:28 PM

I took a break from the SKIF insanity to build something far less frustrating, a Tamiay T-62a. Yet the whole weekend I was decrying the lack of accuracy in the kit. God help me, I'm turning into a rivet counter! Embarrassed

I'm kidding (mostly) but I did spend far too much time online looking for camo patterns, actual combat events, export versions, etc etc etc. One thing I want to fix on the kit, and it may already be too late, since the parts are on it, is the side fuel tanks (on the running boards)...where would the hoses be, and where would they go to?

Let's rattle the cage, crack the machine. Let 'em know who you are, shine to be seen.

Nothing wrong with that. I spend as much time checking references, whether on line or in books, than I do building. For me, its all par of the fun.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I would check Prime Portal's website. They may have a walk-around that shows what you need.

I love the research almost as much as the build.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Like everybody else has said, many of us find the research part of the fun. One suggestion, don't get carried away with 100% "accuracy" on colors. If you look at  German Panzer dark yellow 1943 every manufacturer is different.  Factor in environmentals and close enough is good enough.

some shots of a Tamiya kit that someone has gone to town on. Might be some useful shots here.

I highly endorse Karl's web site, he's spent a lot of time and effort into providing us some real reference material. Check it out.

Before I even start a build I'm downloading photos and history. Personally I enjoy trying to get my builds as close to real vehicles as I can but I don't lose any sleep over having the wrong handles. Everybody builds for different reasons and theres plenty of room for everybody and I whole heartedly agree with Wayne and Bish, it's part of the fun.
