For some reason, those colours look suspiciously similar to WWII German armour colours ...................

The Germans never used that kind of three color camo pattern in WWII. At least, the frustrated modeler got a little bit creative.

That is more like an "AMBUSHED PATTERN".
The pattern actually reminds me a bit of some designs drawn for cartoons created and broadcast during the very early 1960s
