Pz.Kpfw.II 1/24 from Tasca

Coming on nicely. I'll second Karl on the warping, would not have even noticed it. In fact, I still can't quit see where it is.

Even if the leaf springs had been painted, I can't imagine that paint staying on for long. I think either would be ok, maybe some chipped paint on them.

I might change my mind from Stalingrad and support Pilotjohn's Tiger in Kursk.

Would anyone know if the leaf springs are  camo colour or greasy black.

Some progress:

As mentioned in my last post the hull is warped. I was hoping to correct that with the side fenders but failed, the plastic continued to move during the curing process.

Maybe it can be covered with mud.

Front view fighting compartment only dry fitted to the lower hull.

wayne, do you mean the tank in the first pic. That was used into 1940 and though the order to switch to overall Pz Grey was given, I think just before the French campaign, many vehicles in France still had this two colour scheme.

that looks like the pre WW2 color scheme

production of the Ausf F ended in July 1942. So if that first scheme is correct, and model companies have been known to get it wrong, then it must have been painted over a Pz Grey base. At the switch to mutli colour camo, many older vehicles were re painted, often this may have left some grey showing.

The second one you can be pretty certain that they have the colour right there.

Box art gives two options;

8 Co. 11 Pz.Rgt, 6 Pz.Div., July 1943, Kursk - irregullar green over sand.

116 Pz.Abt. 16 Inf.Div., Summer 1942, Southern Russia - dark grey overall.

I am easy but would like to go with a documented vehicle.

Unfortunately most reference pictures found on line are in b&w as disastermaster pointed out.

This one looked OK until it fell apart :)

Well, at least the guys at Bovvy are not trying to pass it off for something it isn't. As I suggested, its simply a guess of using the nearest thing they had. I think most people seeing it would not know, and those who would can understand the reason behind it.

Zack, that would give you another option, how about a N African scheme, or are you set on the grey.

History
Fahrgestell number 28434. The Museum’s exhibit was built in May 1942 and shipped to Tunisia in December 1942 where it served with the Reconnaissance Platoon of Panzer Regiment 7, 10th Panzer Division. British forces captured it when the Germans were defeated in Tunisia in May 1943.
It is currently displayed in the markings of the 1st Panzer Division at the time of the German invasion of France in May 1940 (official information from the museum).

^This.  Many museum's do a yeoman's job with correct paint schemes.... then there are others.  The Pz II ausf F simply has an incorrect paint scheme.

Zack, its highly likely the museum painted there tank that colour as a representation of the tanks used in the very early days of the war. You can't always trust museum pieces when it comes to accuracy. The Ausf F did not enter production until early 41, and by then the two colour scheme had long been dropped.

But the black and white picture on the drawing depicts the same vehicle as the one above.

Your kit is the ausf F.  They would not have taken part in any of the early war actions when the grey and brown camouflage pattern was in use.

This is a fun build, The tube was allready completed and is slightly warped but I can fix that with the side fenders, at least I think so :)

 Well, someone had to do it.

 I think those colors look as good as any of the pics I've seen but I've only been able to access b&w photos and the advice of others.

i cant say with any sure knowledge about the colors/camo,but that is a fine build,very nice!
