Hi Jersey. Can't speak for Udel09, but from what I've seen of the pre-zimm, it looks very good. I've had to shave and clean some areas off, to lay down the Cavalier zimmerit. The pre-zim must save a ton of work and look so much cleaner in the end.

I have the IV/70 version and wondered if the long-barrel came in zimmerit. Apparently some did. I was also under the impression the long-barreled version came with the steel rollers on the first bogie-wheel, because the added weight of the long-gun wore the rubber on the tires out. Did the kit come with them?

I must say that the camo and finish came out splendid. Well done sir.

Marcus -  As others have mentioned I was going for a brand new replacement barrel look so I tried to minimize the weathering on the barrel.  It was an enjoyable build and you shouldn't have any issues with yours.

Roy - That's good to know.  The reason the antenna is bent is because the tank took a nosedive onto my tile floor during assembly.  It broke about a half inch off the top but amazingly held up pretty well.

Thanks for the comments!

T26E4

buffelhead: gun tubes came from the factory in a black lacquer finish -- not the red oxide that coated other metal parts -- that's what Doog's referring to.  Udel got it right.

Yup, that was a heat-resistant primer paint. There's a good deal of color evidence for it,.  Still, you see some guys still painting them in a  primer red color. I always call it out just to make sure they get it correct; it's an easy fix to do. Smile

One thing for you udel -- you should know that German WW2 antenna rods were metal tubes and wouldn't bend.  Their bases were rubber and could give -- but otherwise, they were stiff.  HTH.

Very nice work Udel!  Love the camo paint job!  What's the deal with the gray barrel?  Does it signify something different with the gun?

Nice work once again, I'm happy to see that you got the Dark Grey primer on the barrel correct. Too many guys still use primer red. All in all, the kit looks pretty nicely finished.

Real nice work, the later Tamiya offerings have been really great,a great alternate to the detailed but more complicated Dragon kits.A great came job and weathering.

I like it, the paint scheme is really nice.  The paint on the gun looks too new, compared to the rest of the tank, but what do I know.

I just purchased this kit and seeing an OOB version is enough to convince me I don't need to purchase any additional items.

Again very nice work.

To make up for a lack of forum participation in the last few months, I will post another build I had the pleasure of completing. This Jagdpanzer IV was built OOB and painted with Ammo Mig German late war acrylics. This was my first time spraying them and I will definitely thin them out a bit before the next use. This model has survived a drop off the modeling table, a clogged nozzle on my airbrush which resulted in paint exploding from the feed cup, and a toddler using it to attack his toy dinosaurs. Overall was a solid build with minimal fit issues. Comments and critiques welcome!
